my engine is pretty modded, street ported engine, non seq twins, koyo radiator, 3row fmic, power fc, upgraded fuel system. and pretty much every other bolt on known to man. im really trying to make this thing last forever (oxymoron) so i recently switched to idemitsu rotary engine oil, started using there fuel lube and was curious about this particular is it worth the 120.00 it would cost to change , or is it a waste

Don't forget it doesn't play well with water, so you have to flush out your coolant system with a chemical that's ok with water and Evans. I think you can find it on the pettit website. BTW, how's Castro doin'?

 

I think it looks like a good Idea. You have to replace your radiator cap to run it, and they reccommend however. Look here for some more info. I enjoyed reading it:

O.k. lemme see if i got this straight, even though i have a koyo radiator i still might need a 7lb cap, and dont just drain my current fluid...run that chemical through and then add the new stuff??? also i heard something about it cause my engine to go into warm up mode or something that happens if your runnin to cool (can anyone shed some light on this), and yoshi...Fidel's getting pretty old, and with there loss at the baseball championship he might not make it much longer lol

Why don't you follow Dave's advice and search using "Evans coolant". There is a ton of good info on the pros and cons, and installation procedures on this site.

 

I've had Evans running through my system for a few years now. Works just fine, you do see a little warmer temps. But it's a nice trade off for 375 degree boil over point. Your engine warm up time is half the time of regular coolant.

You should change cap to a 7lb cap, some people run zero pressure. It saves on wear and tear on hoses. Only reason they suggest some pressure is that the zero pressure seems to pick up moisture in the system.

I had it changed when I had my motor rebuilt. But the process is to run strait sierra coolant, drain and fill with Evans. It doesn't like more than 1% water. Don't fill your overflow tank too high. Evans seems to expand more than normal coolant mixture, causing overflow from the resevoir.

What you'll need to do to use Evans is to drain your coolant, flush with the intermediate chemical(^^Sierra^^) then fill up with Evans. There seems to be a bit of a debate on whether or not it's worth it.

Correct if I'm wrong guys, even though you have FMIC, since you don't live in a hot climate and you don't track your car(do you?), you should be able to keep your temp under control with a different thermostat and maybe a fan switch mod. Especially since you already have a Koyo.

I think he has limited net time from Gitmo. Not saying it's an excuse, but it might be why he's more apt to ask rather than search.

 

yeah i appreciate all the help (yoshis right its quicker to ask and rather then look for answers and waste computer time). well yoshi your kinda right i dont track it but i do cut her loose on the weekends and i guessed the climate would get pretty hot in va beach. pretty much im tryin to make it last as long as possible i figured this would help. so far i got the new radiator, switched to the rotary oil, and am using the fuel mixture. if you can think of anything else to prolong the life expectantcy feel free to throw it out there. thanx for everyones input.

 

With regards to coolant I think the best advice is to look after the system the best you can.

Change the fluid often. If you want to, use something like Water Wetter (Red Line),

But whatever you do don't use a coolant flush it could screw up the engine!

Just flush the system lots of times.

I suppose if you tend to do track days motorsport products could help. But race teams may change the fluid every 200 miles.

 

A vented hood and a second oil cooler(if you don't already have one) may help too. We can get together this spring and go over what we can do to keep our cars cooler. This'll be my first summer with my FD too.

Oh yeah, wrapping your downpipe would help too.
