Coolant temp a little to high maybe...

hey guys well i think im having a little overheating problem in my rx7...my pfc is reading like high 90's C today and it kinda freaked me out and it was a cool day like only in the 50's. i dont know if my thermastat is sticking or if my radiator or intercooler is going bad or whats going on..or maybe i have air pockets in the cooling...and for my other question when i get this figured out...what would benifit me more a intercooler or a radiator? thanks guys!

ummm 90s as in what? high or low

90c is only 194F which is completly fine and 99c is 210 which still isnt bad at all

where you driving when you noticed this or at a light idling?

Last night in NY..was a bit chilly, sat at a light for about 2 minutes and my temp climbed up there.......its no biggie..

I'd go with the radiator then the intercooler, but if running higher boost then both, but they are both good things to have really.

get a watertemp gauge asap becuase that is not normal, im surprised that your engine is still running to tell you the truth!

as for the original poster, the stock tstat does not open till 180-190f degrees so that temp is perfectly normal, your car's normal operating temp is 180f degrees at least. i would highly suggest you not to run your car hard untill it got up to this temp as its just as destructive if you were to overheat it and run it hard still. i only worry if i see it climbing over 210f degrees. if your racing hard, water temps up to 230f seems to be ok with most people.

I've heard more like 215 which is on the very high end, and somewhat stupid.

Thats why most like the fan switch mod/Miata Thermoswitch mod because the stock T-Stat doesn't turn the fans on early enough.

And whitepsycho, I'd order a new engine if I were you. Even when My car saw 215f the needle still sat at just under half. If your needle moves way up, you should turn off the car. Definitely get a water-temp gauge if you want to play it safe.

Does NOT matter. If the needle doesn't rise when it is going to be approaching a dangerous 230+f, you bet it rose because you were seeing something insane like 250+. Heat is a killer on the FD for many many reasons.

If you neglect it, you'll just join the crowd that thinks these cars are bombs exploding at any moment.

hmmmm i think that is when the fans turn on, stock tstat should start opening at 180f and should be fully open by 200f i believe

Doh! Yea I was thinking about the fans, not the T-Stat, confused the two numbers.
