year and month of my FD?

Heya guys, the person im about to order a pfc off needs to know exactly what month my FD was made in so he can give me the correct model so how do i figure that out again? I know its got something to do with those numbers on the firewall but cant find the info on about it. I've told my tuner that its a 1996 model but he needs to know the month is well. Cheers.

Section 2.5 here has information on the VIN for US models:

Hopefully, it will help.

Thanks mahjick that link is quite informative, the problem is that they stopped at the year 1995? I just cant seem to find where it explains wat month ur FD's made in. Im from New Zealand so i suppose its a JDM model then? As soon as i know wat month its made in i could tell the tuner and he could put me order thru for the pfc. THanks.

SLO NIZ,

here are the model numbers for the JDM spec Power FC

12/1991 - 1/1996 13B-REW = 414-Z004
1/1996 - 1/1999 13B-REW = 414-Z005
1/1999 -> 13B-REW = 414-Z006

hope this helps

Cant understand why your tuner would need to know the exact month, the power FC model you need should fall under one of the categories above

i found this out too :

"JM1" "World Manufacturer Identifier" for Mazda
"FD" RX-7 series
"33" body style ("33" = coupe)
"1" "Misc ID field" (1993: "1" = US, "2" = Canada.)
(1994: "3" = manual seat belts, 2 airbags)
(1995: "3" = manual seat belts, 2 airbags)
"1" "Check Digit" (used to verify that a VIN is not bogus)
(calculated for each car)
"P" year model code (1993 = "P")
(1994 = "R")
(1995 = "S")
(Q was not used)
"0" assembly plant code ("0" = Hiroshima)
"200001" serial number (1993: started with 200001)
(1994: started with 300001)
(1995: started with 400001)

The breakdown of the VIN only applies to U.S. cars, as far as I know.

The build date of the car should be on the sticker on the driver's side door jamb, as BigBoosting said.

The only reason I would think he needs it is to see if his car was built in 95. I guess Mazda did some change during this year.

Ok im pulling my hair out and still cant figure out what month my FD's built in BUT i do remember the person that rebuilt my engine saying that i've got a different ECU and the rats nest is different to the pre 96's so does this mean ill be grabbing the PFC in the middle out of the list of 3 that shaq gave me? Thanks again.

Did some research for you was board at work,

When you say you have a different ecu do you mean a 16bit version? Or some aftermarket one? as this was changed from 8 bit to 16 bit late 95 onwards.

Also I know that Mazda changed the rats nest to some kind of solenoid pack late 95+

I would be interested to know my month on my JDM as well. its a 95 model BUT its a type RB model which was not released until later in 95-96 i believe.

I think he only way you can tell is to ring up or email mazda japan.
