Coolant smell inside when heater is on high
Im thinking that I know the answer to this but just thought I would ask before I take apart the dash and replace the heater core. The smell is only when the fan is on high (4) and I dont see a leak on the floor of the passenger. To those who replaced thier heater core how long did it take? thanks
BTW
This has been this way since I got the car.. about 2 years Im just getting sick of it.

You may not have to replace the core. If the leak is small enough you may be able to fix it with a "stop leak" product (such as Barr's Stop Leak) from your local parts store. It may not work, but the way I see it it is worth the $5 to try. This stuff has worked for various projects of mine in the past.

P.S. Replace the heater core if it is bad, I would not use a "fix a flat" cooling system repair in a bottle.

Yes I do have heat.... but I only get the smell from the highest number. Its not really strong but the smell is there none the less.
Also here is another item.. When I have the turn **** set to cold and pulling in air from the outside lets say in the summer the air really isnt very fresh meaning. It smells like exuast (I dont have a exaust leak I know that much) It gets bad when I get "on it" then for a while it smells.
Has anyone used stop leak? I have a brand new rad. and dont really want to gum it up. Like I said I have no experience with that stuff.
thanks for the replies guys

have you had a shop pressure test your cooling system? This will show if you have a leak. You may have to have your temperature control **** to hot and leave the cooling system pressurized for a while. If the pressure drops you have a leak some where. Then start the car, turn the heater on full with the blower runnig full, get up under your dash and poke around to see if you have a hot wet spot. Also coolant is a little greasy, so if you find a spot on the carpet that fells slick, smell your fingers and if its sweet, it coolant.
Good Luck
