Question

Have you checked all your coolant lines?

The coolant line that runs from the filler neck to the AST was bad on my car. I noticed it when I was installing my BOV. I barely moved the line and there was a crack up on the hose clamp.

As for the coolant smell, if you had a leak before, it could just be dried coolant burning off from your fixed leaked.

Hi,

I was having the same problem and it was driving me crazy, while installing my rad and other mods I found the source. My thermostat gasket was leaking and you could see everything below the bottom of the filler neck was a little wet. Also the coolant buzzer sending unit was lose and was also leaking a small amount.

Every time I would drive the car there would be about 1" less coolant in the filler neck than when i started and with the windows open you could smell the faint odour of coolant. Hope this helps.

Wouldn't a pressure test find the leak?

Yes, as long as it doesn't smoke too long, and the smoke doesn't have a coolant smell to it.

You also might want to check the turbo coolant hoses, if they havent been replaced they swell and will burst.

check the line that runs from the side of the AST tank. It runs along the bar that the innercooler sits on. You will need to remove the under belly pan to get to it. It has a connector in the middle of it for some reason. i have never seen an FD yet that even had any type of clamps on it. Maybe its because the connector is plastic. I have seen several leak or the hose just some off of this connection.
