coolant question

few weeks ago my cars radiator was damaged and it cracked.. so all the water/ coolant was drained out.. i couldn't get it tow (since its too low) so i made quick drive with out any water or coolant in engine to park my car at my friends house... I saw the engine temp.. It was still cold... and when i got to my friends.. i saw it raised a little but not close to normal temp.

Is there any chance i might burn the coolant seal?.

first of all: bad idea driving it with no coolant

secondly: yes, you certainly could have warped your seals from driving it like that, what was the temp gauge reading if there was no coolant? Your engine probably got a lot hotter than the gauge indicated.

third: replacing the coolant seals mean you have to rebuild the engine.

Good luck, but next time, risk the damage from a tow (or how about not lowering your car so much). Replacing your belly pan is a lot cheaper than rebuilding your engine.

they can tow just about anything these days..

request a flat bed..

worst case, the tow truck shows up, and the car doesn't clear...so I don't use it.

you really shouldn't have driven the car.

I don't think a coolant temp gauge is much use if there isn't any coolant in the system. If you really did drain the coolant from a cracked radiator, there's a VERY good chance you cooked the engine.

As most have stated, the temp guage does not measure the temp of anything but the coolant. So no coolant it wouldnt move at all. I will deffinately pray for your engine everynight.

I'm doing a radiator/coolant change, so, instead of asking, I searched to find out an answer. I didn't pay attention to the dates, just commented.

You're still an idiot, FstFD3SPOWER, albeit a very lucky idiot.
