This morning when I walked up to my car i discovered a long stream of what appeared to be a yellow or very light green fluid stained on the concrete floor.

I checked underneath my car and saw nothing leaking, I just assumed it wasnt from my car.

When I pulled into my school parking lot I let the car idle for a couple minutes then shut it off, looked underneath the car and there was a big puddle of coolant leaking from the centre of the undercarriage.

Took it to my mechanics shop and we looked underneath the car and it seems the leak is coming from the coolant jacket or frost plug. The car is not overheating or blowing smoke, running as smooth as can be, seems to have full power.

I thought when a coolant jacket blew the car would lose coolant and at the same time overheat and blow smoke, and coolant will eventually find its way into the combustion chamber and the car would no longer start...

I continued to drive to work and back home after we had a look underneath the car, no problems at all, car ran smooth as can be, no overheating, no smoke nothing.. The coolant buzzer didnt even come on..

I checked underneath the car for leaks before work, after, and on my way home, wasnt leaking a bit. Coolant levels were fine..

I already ordered new frost plugs from my local Mazda dealer (x4 @ $2.96 a piece)

Can anyone shine some light on my situation here?

 

Common coolant leak locations are your throttle body coolant lines, turbo coolant lines, and I had an ast line split when I swapped for an aluminum one. Easy way to find leaks would be to grab a coolant system pressure tester from autozone and pump up the system to like 7 or 8 psi and just look at your system.

On my 98 s10 I had a mysterious coolant disappearance with no apparent leak. I grabbed that pressure tester and pumped up the system and it started pissin all over the ground. Was a crack in the plastic end tank on the radiator.

It's not going to be the freeze plugs. Most likely it's a hose that's leaking.

Coolant seals, when they go, typically leak into the combustion chamber. It's an internal leak, no puddle on the ground, the engine burns the coolant and you get big smoke.
