Contemplating on RX7
Hi everybody! Im looking to buy an rx7 and I'm going around doing my research. I recently talked to a dealership who has a 1994 rx7 twin-turbo, and he said he can probably give it to me for $18,000 CAN. The thing is, it doesnt come with a 13B engine... He said that the engine needed to be rebuilt anyways cuz you need to rebuild the engine every 60,000 km and the car is at 124,000 km.
Is that true?? Because I found a private sale a ferry terminal away selling a 94 rx7 twin turbo for $12,500! How much money do I have to spend on this car just to make it run? BTW, if i do get this car, it's gonna be for racing only so I'm gonna be spending tons of money on it anyways. I just want to do a budget so I dont get stuck in the future!
Thanks a lot!

something sounds fishy, you don't need to rebuild every so whatever often. you rebuild it when it needs it or when you think it might need it (loss of compression ect..)and theres no preset mileage # telling you when the engines going to go, i think this guy is selling that thing a bit pricey.. but im not familiar with canadian curency..

dude, this guy is trying to rip you off. $18000 for a car with a non-working engine??? i gues used car salesmen are sleezeballs wherever you are. If its for racing, check craigslist.com for someone who is selling one that needs a rebuild. $8000 is probably the most I'd pay for one thats non-running. You'd spend 10K EASY on the rebuild, porting, turbo upgrade, suspension, etc.

The dealership sounds about $10k overpriced. Yes, if it's got an original engine with 124k on it I agree it will need a rebuild shortly. But asking $18k, haha nice try.
If you want an FD for racing only then I suggest you shop for race prepped FDs. And don't rule out FCs either.

If its the black one at Burnaby, it's been there for at least 2 maybe 3 years with no takers that should tell you everthing. FD's are rare and expensive in Canada, expect to pay 20K plus for a decent one.
I found mine by asking around at the local rotary specialist shops - first guy I talked to passed along 3 or 4 leads right off the bat. I eventually bought mine from one of the leads. This is probably your best bet too as a lot of rotary owners will develop a fairly good relationship with their mechanic. Hope that helps!

He says it needs to be rebuilt after 32,000 miles?I had a 87 Turbo II that lasted just fine for over 145,000 miles! My 93 had over 125,000 miles on it before needing a rebuild. The dealer is full of it.Find one somewhere else.

rollers with trashed engines go for $4500 US or so around here.
I bought my FD running for 6k with great cosmetics and very minor maintenance
type problems costing about $500 to fix.
look around. The bargains are out there.
If you want to build a race car, buy a roller and build it the way you want.
Keep in mind, the FD is definitely not a car for beginners, racing or the street and tuning mistakes are very expensive.
