Considering the following FD
If this is your car, feel free to speak up lol.

No big plans for it if I buy it, I honestly just want it for a fun DD car and I'd also probably end up autocrossing it in SS. I already have a reliable beater car as a backup in case motor goes south, but how well do these tend to hold up in stock class? Even stock this car has more than enough oomph for me. Would this be a decent car to get into, or should I keep looking?
Info: 93 rx7 R1 model, 70k miles. salvage title due to theft (I have a carfax for it too)

Bad stuff:
- A/C doesn't work. All the pieces are there, though.
- Will need tires soon. Plenty of tread, but they're old and starting to dry rot.
- Nose is wavy. Urethane nose got hot and sagged. Apparently a common thing with those cars in hotter climates.
- Salvage title due to being a theft recovery. You pulled a Carfax report for me, and this is reflected there.
- Some interior cracking. Not bad for a 12 year old car, but it's still something that people need to know about.
- Worn bushings holding the differential to the subframe. Clunks when shifting.
- Boost is turned down (more on this in a minute).
- Stock exhaust is on the car but has a small hole in it.
- No cruise control. This is due to the car being an R1 model.
Good stuff:
- Car was inspected at Rotary Performance (RX7.com) and came back with a clean bill of health. They were particularly impressed with the compression numbers, and thought that the motor had been rebuilt at some point.
- Petit Racing air intake. Apparently, those cars run into boost control problems if there are changes made to both the intake and the exhaust systems. Rotary Performance told me that they thought that the wastegate line has a "pill" in it to turn the boost down in preparation for exhaust mods.
- Fluidyne radiator.
- Metal air seperation tank.
- Brembo slotted/crossdrilled rotors (~300 miles on them)
All in all, the car is in pretty good shape, both mechanically and cosmetically. I'd say that it's in especially good shape for a 12 year old car. I have the stock airbox if anyone wants it for emissions inspection. I'd take $10,500 for it.

This car was clearly maintained really badly (what sort of owner lets their tires rot?) so the problems listed above are probably only the obvious ones. You could easily spend $3-$5k on maintenance items, at which point you will still have a tired-looking FD with a salvage title.
You should be able to find a decent well-maintained nice-loooking car for $15k or so and spare yourself a lot of grief.

Salavage title car with problems is worth abour 7-8k tops. Just save more $I$ and get yourself a clean title FD. I speak from experience, my first FD was salvage title not worth the headaches trust me...

If you are going to be the last owner of the car and you trust your ability to appraise a car, the salvage title is not that big of a deal. IMHO, $8K is a fair price. I bought mine in very similar condition with no salvage title 2.5Years ago for $10K.

i agree.........an FD with a salvage title should not be selling for 10K, also its a pain if you ever re-sell it. keep searching plenty of decent FD's out there for that price

I see nothing wrong with buying a salvage car but this car is priced at retail.
IMO this car is worth 7k max.
It needs:
bushings 500 to 1500
paint 3k
AC 250 to 1000
exhaust 500 to 1000
tires 400 to 750
etc....
Like some others have suggested you can do much MUCH better if you spend just a little more.
On this forum alone there's a nice 94 mb for 13k and a nice 93 VR single turbo with 7 to 10k in mods for 13k. This car is clearly not a good choice for 10k.
