hi everyone .. this my first post here .. i have an 93 touring rx7 .. unfortunately it caught fire today .. i dont know why exactly .. maybe someone can give me some insight .. happened when i noticed my car was smoking so i pulled over right away and shut the engine off .. the fire seemed to be concentrated under the manifold area .. i dont think the fire lasted that long .. maybe 1 to 2 mins before some people were kind enough to rush from their house and doused it w/ water .. im not sure whats wrong with my car cause im a total noob so .. any help would be very much appreciated .. one of the people kind enough to help me told me that my oil was low .. id say around 25% between the E and F on the dip stick .. unfortunately im a moron so i didnt keep track of my oil level due to my oil pressure gauge crapping out on me .. also any ideas on how f*cked my car is and any price quotes would be appreciated .. keep in mind im the poorest college student ever .. thanks in advanced

Fire + FD = $$. There are a boatload of fire-damagable components under UIM, and the source of the fire itself (fuel leak?) could also be expensive. Even if you find some way to get the labor done for free, I'll bet your cost will start at $1000 in just solenoids, hoses, and electrical connectors.

I hope this is your second car. FDs are awful as only cars for poor college students.

Personally, I would try to find a way to pay for a good FD mechanic to work on it. You likely had a fuel leak and pretty much everything under the UIM is toast.

You can PM turbojeff. He has brought many FDs back from the dead and can probably be a very valuable resource for you.

Good luck.

Being a little low on oil will start a fire every time. Just kidding. Low oil was not the cause. It's impossible to know what caused it without looking at the car. Even then, it still may be tough to figure out.

I agree with Rynberg. Get the car to a good rotary mechanic if you want it fixed right. It won't be cheap, but you will only have to have it fixed once.
