Compressor surge during 3k warm-up

I dont know if Im nuts or not, but noticed recently (never do the 3k start) that when starting in neutral and the car spikes to 3k, I hear hissing slowly build up behind my intake piping (souds like major compressor surge for few seconds) and then the bov vents. Its as if the car is building boost during the 3k warmup and my bov is not venting it.

Is this normal? Should I loosen my bov spring? Greddy type rs

Is it a hissing or fluttering? I doubt you are building enough boost at idle to cause compressor surge.

its a hissing...engine revs up to 3k....and a hissing starts to build, just a pot of boiling water. Its sounds like its coming from the intake to the turbo? weird. Any how, as soon as the car is finished the hissing releases and everything is normal again?

sounds like you need to disable/remove the AWS.

This is normal isn't it? My car does it with Apexi power intakes. Surely it's just the noise the car makes sucking the air in at a high rate when the engine's cold.

I've had loads of aftermarket intakes on other cars that hiss like mad especially when cold.

Anyone?

if it was on the throttle body side i would suggest that the air bleed screw is opened a little more then the half a turn out. You dont have any vacuum hoses off do you? It's probably normal unless you're having some other problems with the car.

Well in my case the noise is definately coming from the intakes themselves... not a leak or anything anywhere else...

And actually, yes I do have other problems :P dont most people?! lol. secondary turbo is not quite as strong as it should be, but getting there! And it was stalling and stumbling with the HKS ssvq I fitted, suggesting a vacuum issue... got the standard back in now, SO much better!

sounds normal.

my current and previous FD's both did the same thing on warm up (with the stock BOV & CRV)

disabled the AWS though so i don't have that issue anymore.

I'm posting this video link up in a few threads as it relates to a few different things! Low quality but the best I could do... you can hear what sounds like compressor surge to me at arround 22 seconds...? this is the 3k startup procedure though so there wont be any boost at all really! Hence this isn't damaging?? It doesn't flutter when it's warmed up as far as I can tell...

Is this ok anyone? Or is it likely to cause damage... only does it with the HKS BOV, not the standard.
