Is this common and easy to fix?
What year man?
The 5th gear is common, replacement requires removal and partial disassembly of the transmission.
The A/C varies from year to year...
93's and some 94's had R12 while most 94's and all 95's had R134 systems.

The 5th gear synchro can be done yourself if you're mechanically competent. I'm told you can remove the extension housing and 5th/rev housing without taking it off the car, but I've never seen it detailed. Either way you're looking at a couple to 6 hours of labor for a $25 part. You _can_ double-clutch it into 5th until you get around to having it fixed.
AC could vary - the R134 systems shouldn't be rocket science, and used parts are readily availalbe for cheap. The R12 parts are also available but the R12 refrigerant is hard to find and any authorized supplier will gouge you good to get some.
