clutch problem and fuel eco problem

need help again, sorry new to rx7.. when i first bought my 3rd gen rx7 i think the clutch that came with it is some kind of racing clutch (makes sounds when engaged) and i had problems with it cause its hard to drive going slow or with traffic, and also the engine stall when the rpm is too low, was wondering if i went back to use a normal jdm clutch would it be a lot easier to drive? Oh and another problem is that my car guzzles fuels, i mean guzzles a lot of fuel.. 51 liters of fuel for 190 km.. can anybody solve this 2 problems for me?? Thanks

What's your modifications on this FD, after market fuel pump, injectors, PFC or stock ECU? If its PFC, at least you can adjust the fuel/air mixture, stock ECU can't.

Hard to give you answers, just too many unknowns from your post?

If you go stock clutch, it will be softer than the racing one. All depends what's your setup, if you're still using the 23 lb stock flywheel or a lighter one. Sounds like its stock flywheel from your indications?

I got a 12.3 lb street lite ATC flywheel and Centerforce dual friction clutch. Its not as heavy as the racing ones, and does not buckle as much as the stock flywheel. Takes off faster in low gear.

How long have you had the car? I usually recommend people start out with basic maintenance items:

* Change spark plugs
* Examine plug wires to see if they need to be changed
* Change O2 sensor
* Air filter replacement
* Oil change and filter replacement
* Fuel filter replacement
* Coolant flush

As for the clutch, you might look for the ACT Street/Strip clutch. It has a very OEM feeling but can hold the torque of a modified car.

I would imagine that if you have an aftermarket clutch, they probably put a lightweight flywheel on it. The lightweight flywheel will need a little more rpms from a start to keep it from stalling. However, lightweight flywheels recover rpms more quickly in spirited/track driving. Using a heavier flywheel will not require the higher rpms getting the car going from a stop or low speeds. Without seeing your flywheel, I can only guess that you have a lightweight one installed from what you are describing. If so, you can replace it with a stock flywheel.

You might look around for a C's or Mazdaspeed short shifter if you want something which will really shorten the shifts. If you only want a moderate change, check out a RE Amemiya short shifter.
