Clutch pedal to the floor
1993 mazda rx7 type r
Getting it ready for the new season because I dont winter drive it. Put a new battery in and went to start it up but the clutch pedal went straight to the floor. No pressure. The clutch was fine before winter. What could cause it to do this?
Thanks

Check the brake fluid reservoir (front and back as there are two chambers) and make sure it's full. Also check under the car and see if you have any fluid on the ground. If you don't have any fluid missing from the reservoir or on the ground, then likely the clutch master cylinder has failed.

Brake fluid reservoir is just above the minimum line.
Cannot see any fluid underneath the car.
How does the master cylinder fail when i havent driven it in months? It was working fine when i parked it. Ugh what a headache!
Thanks.

There is an inspection cover on the master cylinder? Sorry I know nothing about the clutch system. Any heads up on how big of a job it is to change the master cylinder?
Is there a seperate master cylinder for the clutch or does it run off the brake master cylinder?
Where are the clutch cylinders?

I would suggest you either download and take a look at the Factory Service Manuals (FSM):
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/tech-manual-directory-614824/
or tow the car to a competent shop.

Thanks for the FSM link that helped alot. So now that i kinda know what im looking at...
I tried to find the parts today, none ANYWHERE in canada. Ugh but thats a seperate problem.
Im going to try and bleed the clutch and hope that air somehow got into the lines. Ill let you know how that goes. Thanks for the help.

Look at the rod that attaches to the clutch pedal. Follow it to the master. When my master went it was all moist with brake fluid at the front, and you could lift the pedal and watch the piston come back up real slow. Like papsmagu said, purchase both master and slave. Does Ray Crowe ship to canada? Thats where I got mine and at the time he had a sale on both. These are wear items, when they go they go. At least it happened to you in the garage. I had 1 master and 1 slave go out in different cars that left me stranded on the side of the road.

Yea i am thankfull that it atleast happened at my house... still a **** off though.
Update, filled the master cylinder resevior because the clutch side was almost empty. Could this cause air to get in the lines and cause the problem?
If thats the case a clutch bleed should do the trick?
Ok thanks pito, i will definatly check that out.
Does anyone know how this could happen while the car is being stored? How could the master cylinders seals deteriorate so quickly when it is not even being used?

nissannick,
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you can answer most of your own questions just by doing a little research or trying things out. Here's idea for the cost of the clutch cylinder parts:
http://www.mazdatrix.com/f-hydral.htm
As for the fluid, if you are low on fluid it went somewhere. So even filling it up and bleeding it may not be the ultimate solution even if it works. However, that is free aside from the brake fluid which you'll need anyway so why don't you just try it?

Nissannick I see your from Edmonton. The Mazda dealership here in Sherwood Park is decent at being competent so if you need parts check with them. That is unless you fixed the problem already. If you did tell me how you did it because mine has the same problem.
