Clutch choice: PLEASE advise (urgent)

HY there,

I'm running a fresh rebuilt engine with streetport on the intakes. non seq turbo's. Looking for 300-400hp in the long haul (later with a single GT35R setup)

I'm looking for a clutch to work with my OEM flywheel, single plated (full disc) with upgrade pressure plate. For easy street/trafic use and occasional track use.

Choices up to now are:-

1. ACT street and track clutch system

2. Mazdaspeed pressure plate with OEM MAzda disc (recommended by Mazdatrix)

I contacted Exedy Europe for a recommendations but haven't heart back fromt hem yet.

Any other experiences/recommendations would be most helpfull.

Thx.,

You might want to look in to "Spec" clutches. I'm currently running them on both my FD's and they're awesome. Very close to OEM feel and has a quick friction point. Definitely helps me get through gears faster.

I 2nd the Spec clutch. I'm running a stage 2+, oem pedal feel, and will work with your factory flywheel. Holding 450hp for 7k miles so far.

thanks,

no shattering feeling when slowly releasing the clutch pedal? You can still slip it?

If your asking me, no. It feels just like a stock clutch.

I'm running Spec Stage 2 on both FD's. One of them is a single turbo FD with 450 rwhp and the other is an in-progress 20B that should be putting down a little over 400 rwhp and 400rwtq. I believe they're rated to handle up to 450 rwtq.

I was a HUGE fan of Exedy clutches prior to giving the Spec's a try. Now, I honestly believe these are one of the better priced and better quality clutches available. Definitely consider it!

I have an ACT S/S clutch and am fairly happy. The clutch pedal is stiffer, but the realease is basically like a stock street clutch. Pretty much a stock clutch with a stiffer pedal and more torque capacity IMO. I would have a SPEC but got this clutch used with low miles for cheap and my stock clutch was slipping.

I will be using a SPEC clutch when this one goes as I have been using a SPEC stage 3 in my daily, a touch over kill x10, and it has lasted 70k+ daily driven miles and is a 6 puck. I also like the quick release/grab of the SPEC, and the stock pedal feel/stiffness. The downside to a 6puck clutch on the street is that it is very hard to slip and not very fun to drive unless driving hard. I wish I could swap the clutches between cars, or the SPEC would just die so I can put a normal clutch in, but for some reason it just keeps going.

I would recommend either, but for what I use my FD for I would rather have the SPEC stage 3. Sorry can't comment on a stage 2 but if it is as reliable as the stage 3 with good drivability I would say get it.

I run a Spec stage 3, but it a little overkill, if you want streetability, go with a stage 2 or 2+, they both hold over 450 lb/ft.
