Ok so im driving on the highway in fifth gear i go to hit the gas the rpms go up real fast but the car only goes from 60-80 meen while my rpms must of hit like 5000 i keep hitting the gas to see if i was bugging or not samething. My clutch is done. Is it a pain in the *** to install and how much should i pay for a new one installed. should i go for a act street strip clutch. BY the way im at my girl friends so is it safe to drive the car home and then to new jersey to have this shop install it.

 

i doubt it will make it. what are your mods that will affect your clutch choice along with how and where you drive it.

 

all i got is down pipe and exaust. I hope i make it home

It depends on how much you plan on modifying your car. The stock clutch does just fine up to around 300 or so rwhp.

As far as driving it, the more you drive it on a worn out clutch the more you tear up the rest of the components (like your flywheel).

The install can be a pain if you don't have the right tools. First thing is you'll need to get the car around 18" or so off the ground to have room to work. You'll need to find/borrow a pilot bearing puller (unless you just enjoy pain). Your flywheel might need to be replaced or resurfaced so that might be additional work (as well as locating a 2 1/8 or 54mm socket). And the list goes on...

I just purchased a stock clutch from Malloy for a little over $200. Mahjik is right, the more you drive it with a bad clutch the more you mess up the flywheel. Our's was messed up. The machine shop that was resurfacing the flywheel cracked it. In my case they took care of me. You might not be so lucky.

 

yea if you drive ur car with a dying clutch, youll ruin the flywheel and will need to replace it unless your lucky like cpa7man!

For a clutch and flywheel job, that sounds pricey. But, if you aren't going to do it yourself, you can't really complain.

I would try to get some quotes from the transmission shops in your area. This is something that is not "rotary specific".

 

Just get a stock clutch unless you have over 300+ hp, or plan on drag racing.

 

If you are replacing the flywheel, make sure to replace the rear main seal. This frequently goes bad on higher mileage FDs -- cost of seal is less than $20.

Also, $1320 for labor alone is a raping. I wouldn't pay half of that, even in Cali. Are you sure $1320 doesn't include the clutch and flywheel?

 

no 1,320 for everything clutch and flywheel labor is $350 and i drag race sometimes especially this time of year

 

Do u gotta change the oil to change that seal. I just put that purple synthetic oil in my car the same day this happened. That **** is expenive but i wanted to use it so I can run alittle harder in the heat. I usually run castrol gtx. I think the clutch went cause i raced this bmw. I got the bmw by like 7 car lengths but it wasnt worth it. I had to do it thought cause the kid pulled up next to me asking me if its turbo and was reving and said i wanna race u so i was like ok and spanked him, it was fun doing it but now i regret it. It is still the factory clutch the car came with from the show room floor and i got 68,000 miles now so its all good.
