clunking noise from rear

OK when I'm driving normal and shift and don't easy out the clutch there is a clunking noise from the rear can't seem to pin point it. Anyone have any idea what it could be I just replaced the diff bushings but it was doing it before I put them in.

Search for pillow *****. It is a common problem in the FD as they get older.

Had the same problem +1 for pillow *****. You can get aftermarket bushings, OEM bushings from Malloy, or low mileage JDM suspension parts with good bushings from Japan2LA here on the forum.

When I fixed my clunk I just changed out my trailing arms and toe link with parts that I got from Japan2LA and my problem was solved.

Pillow *****. Do ALL of them at once. If you only change one or two, the rest will fail shorty. We are well equipped at the shop to change them out for you if you like.

I would suggest getting the Atomic rex pillow ***** from Juan, just reuse your old mazda dust boots. They are cheaper than the mazda ones and they are sealed.

OP, I typed in "clunking noise from rear" (your thread title) and came up with FOUR PAGES AND 100 THREAD RESULTS. Are you telling us you couldn't find one single answer to your question????????????

https://www.rx7club.com/search.php?searchid=10516875

In other words SEARCH instead of making a thread about something that has been covered a thousand times since 2002!

There are 6 pillowball bushings to replace and my cost at my dealership is 54.00/pillowball bushing. Well worth it, makes a huge difference.

Looks a bit "mickey mouse". I'd replace them with an aftermarket set from Rotary Performance. Those heim joints on your set up also wear out so that could be a source of the clunking.

^That's because they do not make one.

Just get the stock ones (used) and install them.

Do you have a pic of the other side of the LCA?

Edit: looking closer at the pic I can see what looks like a "custom" trailing arm as well. If that is the case then none of the available
aftermarket trailing arms will work with that LCA and you will need to get a stock one.

Ask Fritz Flynn, he will have some. He's honest and he's a good fellow to do business with. Do a search under his name.
