Club Newbie

Hello everyone, I'm new to the RX-7 club. At the moment, I don't have a person car that I own, cause I'm 18, and am currently enrolled in a trades program under automotive mechanics and such.....

Anyways, The FD has always been my favourite car since it runs on the ever so smooth wankel rotary, and I plan on importing an FD from Japan sometime after my program finishes in June. I'm aiming for a 93 and up model year. I doubt I'll be importing one soon though since I need to get a job after and repay some debts before anything happens, but I'm just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a link or something that generally covers everything I need to know about the FD.

I mean, I know a few minor things about how theres reliable mods that should be done with the car asap, but I just wanna know what I'll be getting into once I step into the wonderful world of rotaries.

Thanks

^^ what he said. and if you think you are going to import an FD and legalize it you prolly should give up that dream. Not gonna happen. Just buy a us version if you intend to drive it on the street. Good luck with finishing school and on the FD search.

Where are you from? Richmond, VA? Richmond, UK??
If you're in the states, just buy a USDM FD. If you're in the UK, you can pick up a used FD there as well.

Though if you're feeling squirrelly... buy one, have them cut it up then ship it out. be prepared for customs to stick it to you several times. buy a usdm 7 for cheep (don't worry about the engine) then spend the next several months of your life swapping out usdm parts for jdm, doing reliability mods, & making it legal for our streets.

read the stickies and make a budget first.

You'd have to be really, really, really squirelly to get lost in such a colossal waste of time and money.

I don't deny that, but it would make for a great project & an impressive car. A much cheaper route would be JDM engine roulette. and i did say:

read the stickies and make a budget first.
The budget part is a killer.

Edit: i have a relative with a housboat, he has a plaque on the wall that reads:
"Boat (boht) - noun: hole in the water, surrounded by wood, in to which one pours money."

the FD isn't much different.

Oh sorry, I forgot to tell everyone, I'm from Richmond, BC in Canada, so JDMs are legal already. So knowing that I figured that it would be cheaper to import one since find FDs where I am are somewhat rare. Besides, there are so many retards at used car dealerships that don't know jack about FDs and sell them for outrageous amounts of money when they're not even running.

Well nobody says that JDM importers know much either. Since you're in Canada, it sounds like a very good option. There has been a little talk in this section about importing to canada, but you might find more info looking in the regional forums too.

Good luck, welcome aboard, and remember that it's good to double check opinions/info before you accept it as fact. Try to keep the rubber side down!
