Checking on Warranty work? with Mazda

I thought I read that you can call Mazda of America with you VIN and not only have them tell you whether the recalls had been done on your car, but also the warranty work performed while under warranty. They told me the recalls had been done, but didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned the warranty work.

I'm trying to find out about my engine; the car has 70K miles and I'm wondering if it's the original engine. It probably is but it'd be great to find out it's actually newer. I'm like the fourth owner so tracking and asking all the previous is nearly impossible.

Anyone know how to do this?

TIA

David

When I called Mazda, they told me they couldn't give out warranty work over the phone. However, several other people have called and been provided the information. I guess it's the luck of the draw as to who you get when you call.

BTW, I thought the VIN# is stamped on the engine behind the alternator. Won't tell you if it's been rebuilt but it will tell you if it's original or not.

Here's the deal that I got. I went to the Mazda dealer and asked for recall info and warranty work. They were able to give me the recall work info, but they were only able to give me the part numbers and dates of the warranty work. They said that I could go to the parts desk and pester that guy if I wanted to know what the part numbers were. That kinda pissed me off.

Later, I ordered a bunch of stuff from Mazdaformance and asked them for the same info. They actually sent me, in the mail and free of charge, a printout of all the recall info, all the warranty work (dates, parts, etc.), and all of the TSBs. Those guys at Mazdaformance are awesome! It was probably 50 pages, and they didn't even charge me for it!

Anyway, the data is available, I guess you just have to talk to the right person.

I wrote Mazda Canada about recalls and warranty work. They replied with the recalls but told me they couldn't tell me what warranty work had been performed. They did tell me where it had been serviced and suggested I contact the dealership.

Cournal is the MAN!

Have been out of town and just got the fax; saw that it came in yesterday morning. Thanks so much for sending that on to me, ma NJ RX7 brotha.

I really appreciate you taking care of this for me. At least it confirms the recalls were done, and told me the warranty history as well. Also the original owners name; I might give him a call and ask him if their's anything else I need to know about on this particular FD.

Thanks again for everything.
