Checking a Turbo

Is there any good ways to check the stock turbos for oil leaks when they are not in the car.

I have AT least one turbo leaking oil so i pulled them and cant tell witch one is the problem

Both of them have some shaft play and both of the exhuast wheels are pretty black, looking like burn't oil build up.

The only idea i had is hook up a oil pump to the turbos and pressurize the system to the normal pressure, maybe higher and see where the oil is coming from, but it proably is not leaking unless boosting.

Any Idea would help me out.

Wile i was looking for this problem i have a friend of mine sandblast the housing
Man they look brand new.

Here are the pics

Also i have a Cosmo 13B turbo but i think the imeller are diffent sizes, is this correct.

On another note.
I will be porting the wastegate as big as the disk that covers it so i can run my mid-pipe and hopefully not have to worry about boost creep with the larger wastegate.

Sounds to me like you have a bad thrust bearing somewhere. Time for some new ones.

If you want to get technical, you can the turbos and attach a dial gauge to them. Set the pointer to detect axial (in-out) movement in the shaft. If there is noticeable play (dunno, maybe up to .001") they need rebuilt. For radial play, the number is larger, see below link.
