First, that looks really cool. Congrats

Second, for those of us interested in that sort of thing, what's a reasonable low end budget for a season? I'm not necessarily saying spending a fortune to lead the pack, just something to get out and run 8 or so events and be mildly competitive. Maybe more so just for the experience and to build on basic autocrossing skills that you might already have.

1. Assume we have a near perfect running car with basic realibility mods. How much should we budget to prepare for safety equipment, necessary upgrades (list what you'd suggest), tires for the season, etc.?

2. How much would you figure for overnight stays, gasoline to drive the event, meals. I assume you'd tow the car because it may not be drivable on the way home?

3. Any other hidden costs?

Thanks, in advance.

I was wondering the same thing, I have been thinking of getting a purposed built track FD (dont want to build it myself to expensive). I was wondering, roughly what is the annual cost for upkeep, tires, track time, repairs, etc? This is something I am quite interested in and was wondering if I could work it into my budget.

That stuff has been covered a few times i believe, im too lazy to search for you but i remember seeing two different threads about expenses for a season.

Edit: heres one from a guy who probably is more involved in it than youll be at first, but it will give u an idea

That is a hard question to answer as it depends on a lot of factors. When i started and was just running open track events and didnt really know how to go fast yet, all I had to pay for was entry fees. ....then you start to get fast and use up things like brakes and tires....then you start upgrading the car.... all the way to where I am now with a dedicated track car running in the top in terms of lap times and everything one the car becomes expendable... and hard core track stuff costs more than street stuff and lasts much less....and i am not a rich guy so i do it all on a pretty tight budget and the wonderful FD allows you to run at the top with a relativly reachable budget range.

that is really a inadequet splurge i gave there, i could really right a book it since I have been neck deep in it for the few yeasrs that I have been exposed to the sport.

Props!

I spent ~$10K doing 6-8 events per season as an instructor. My car was not prepped to the level Damien's is b/c mine was also a daily driver.

alberto_mg now has my old ride.
