its homemade looking because i havent finished the carbon fiber bezel to replace the stock black plastic yet. it will fill in all the blank space and improve the look significantly. the weather and some other projects have been preventing me from working on it.

the price is very good for what you get. this kit will light the road better than any other and is one of if not the cheapest kit around.

p.s. i am doing my best to ignore all the freeze dried *** comments. you dont drive around with your headlights up during the day do you? you dont make any performance upgrades for the rx7 yourself do you?

I agree that you're getting a fair share of abuse, but the setup has alot of frontal area, coupled with the offset lights make it look funny. While most people don't drive around during the day with there lights up still doesn't mean that they shouldn't look decent or geometric. By all means though, don't let these replies stop you from marketing your ideas, but you might consider some of the replies as constructive critisizm and revise your design prior.

Now, having said that: Sorry Dude, its still crude. Kind of reminds me of the Terminator 1 movie where Arnold gets half his face blown off and his eyeball is still moving around in his skull. It almost has that purpose built ultra high tech look...almost. Maybe some nice chrome fasteners in there to finish it off instead of the off the shelf stuff.

Quality lighting components though. Come up with a nice bezel/surround to finish it off and you might have something. Personally spending that much money on lights is out of the question for me - just a matter of priorities. Then again, I'm an old fart and don't drive at night anymore since I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.

I like them, but they look unfinished.
Need to cover or sorround the frame/brackets with plastic/CF/fiberglass.

I'm the one who started the "freeze-dried ***" comments, obviously, so I should apologize. I don't like it when other people pop up in a thread only to make negative comments, so I shouldn't do the same myself. That said, I don't like the look, and of course I'm entitled to my opinion, but I didn't mean the comment in a malicious manner. Rather, I meant it as sort of a tongue-in-cheek comment expressing my distaste. I mean think about it... saying something looks like "freeze-dried ***" is sort of a funny way to express your opinion that you don't like it, isn't it?

I'm sure the lighting is excellent, but I have never liked pop-up lights, whether on my RX-7 or on my Corvette. The only ones that I ever thought had any character were the frog-eye lights on the Porsche 928, and they can stay on someone else's 928, if you know what I mean...

I prefer sleek lights, so any combination of the pop-up is not going to be to my taste. Wael's solution is probably the one I like the most, since it's less obtrusive and more visually pleasing. However, I do appreciate that someone was trying to solve the problem of poor night visibility in their own manner, and I applaud them for that. We need more innovation, not less.

I think he planned to, but hadn't gotten around to it yet... there's a lot of that going around, I hear.

I, personally, think that carbon fiber is overrated (and overdone). I don't like the bling bling approach. If you want to upgrade your hood to carbon fiber to save a pound or two, that's fine with me, but people who leave it raw and don't paint it body color aren't looking for that pound or two savings, in my opinion. Sure, it's a fringe benefit, but what they're really interested in is impressing people and making the statement "look how much I spent on my carbon fiber hood, motherbitches". Of course, that's just my opinion. I think raw carbon fiber hoods on painted cars look like freeze-dried ***...

I prefer an "OEM" appearance, and that's why I've bought (and sold) 5 sleek light kits and now have another that I won't be using, still intending to make my own. None of them look OEM. Some have better quality construction, some have better quality lighting, some have better appearance, none has all of the above, and none looks even remotely like it might have come from the factory on the car. Until I manage that, I'll continue to have empty "eye sockets" in the front of my car. After all, it's not like it's going anywhere any time soon.

Maybe you could figure out something with a couple of Radio Shack flashlights mounted in the front bumper?

No one said anything about eating it... I just said I knew what it looked like, and if I ever forget, the tachometer mounted on the center console in AARotary's car helps recalibrate my definition...

thanks for the replies guys.

i know they look unfinished. THEY ARE UNFINISHED. They are perfectly functional but missing that last piece that makes them look finished. i am working on it.

p.s. i think it looked just as funny with the lights mounted at the same height. the problem is lack of space to work with. i was trying to keep the cost down by using the stock mounting bucket.

First off, kudos for making such a kit. I'm looking for something similar to what you've got pictured there. I have a few suggestions however:

1. You don't need CF for the bezel. The only shiny thing should be the lights. CF is nice and all, but not in this application. I would use aluminum painted flat black, or maybe stock-looking plastic. Same goes for the screws and mounting hardware, paint them flat black so they blend nicely.

2. Aesthetics are a BIG consideration for something like this, to some people it's more important than the performance of the lights. Moving each light by half an inch would make your kit look MUCH nicer. If I buy your kit, I plan on using the high and low beams at the same time. If you want my cash, I settle for nothing less than perfection, or I'll just take your idea and build something very similar on my own.

3. This is just me being nit-picky, but LABEL the pics on your website. Which one is stock, and which is modified? I don't want to spend 2 minutes trying to decipher the side-by-side pics, when it would've taken you 30 seconds to add some text to your photos using Microsoft PictureIt.

there are instructions in the technical section of my site for wiring your lights to keep the low beams on with the high beams.

i can make the bezels from fiberglass just as easy or the carbon is paintable. but i cannot make it from aluminum because the shape is very complex. the screws are 18-8 stainless steel for corrosion resistance especially compared to the cheap black oxide coating. you will not see the screws at all with the bezel installed.

the aesthetics are not the best. i was never trying to say they looked awesome. the kit is for people who want the best lighting at the cheapest price. how often do you find a combination like that?

OK, back to Wael's setup : if anyone happens to disassemble their headlight motors to see how they "insulated the internals" to adjust how far they rise (or if Wael happens to see this thread), it would be greatly appreciated...
