Check Engine Light and PFC....

I probably never paid any attention to this until today, but is the stock CEL supposed to work with PFC? I was gonna check the codes as i'm having some slight problems and the CEL doesn't come on at all. I don't see it even when i just turn the key to start the vehicle. I checked the bulb, but it works fine.

Am i having some kind of problem or does the CEL doesn't work with PFC?

How do we check for codes then?

Thanks a lot.

Amel

No it does not. The powerfc can however be set to illuminate the cel if you exceed a set injector duty cycle. What you can also do is go to the sensor check menu and see if anything is not operating properly.

So CEL doesn't work with PFC? How do you know if something is not operating properly in the sensor check menu?

If I recall correctly it should have a black dot next to it or be highlighted, I forget.

You can check all of the sensor functions and voltages through the Commander...who needs a CEL?

I son't use a commander, so I am not sure how easy it is to overlook this 'highlighted' area. But, remember that if your OMP goes out, you will have to be on top of it asap via the commander.

The PFC triggers the CEL (flashes) when injection duty cycle exceeds 98% (this can be changed with the datalogit) and when knock values exceed 60 (this can be changed in the datalogit also). I can't remember off the top of my head what causes the exhaust over heat to flash. This can also be changed with the datalogit.

You can check the sensors under the ETC/Sensor Check screen. This will spit out sensor names and voltages for those sensors. If one is out of wack (very high or very low voltage) you will see that voltage highlighted. The dots by the other sensors means that they are on at that moment. Example: ones labeled STP (STOP) when you apply the brakes this should light up. Another is STR (Starter) and when the starter is turning this should be highlighted.

All this can be found in the PFC directions on page 38 and on.

Joe

*edit* however my CEL and exhaust over heat lights have never worked (was like this when I bought the car). I've even set the values lower in the datalogit to test my CEL and still nothing. So I have no hard facts that this does work like the directions say.

I spend a lot of time with datalogging, peak holds and going through the sensor check screens to make sure the car is acting "normal."
