Check Engine Light

Tonight when i was driving around, I saw my check engine light came on. I shut it off and start it again, and the light didn't come on again. After maybe 30 min of driving, it came again and i shut if off and started again and it didn't come on for the rest of the night.

Today around maybe 11 am i washed the engine i drove it around for 30 min to dry it. Nothing happend then, but it was raining tonight and i don't know what happend. I'm gonna do check engine light diagnostics tomorrow, but does anybody have any idea what could be?

I'll post the code tomorrow here.

All comments are welcome, Thanks a lot

Could be any number of things. It won't really mean anything until you pull the codes.

If you have a '94 or '95, then it doesn't matter if it's a California car or not. The "Cali FD" applies only to the '93's. Anything later than that is basically a "Cali FD". I say get yourself a 330Ohm high-temp resistor and stick it in the end of that blue electrical connector that goes to the EGR. Then block off the EGR at your earliest convenience.

It's on the LIM.

It's a PITA to get to, but I did the EGR block off alone, and I hadn't had an iota of auto mechanics experience before this. To get to it you will need to remove the secondary (rear) turbo inlet and y-pipe. If you've got long, thin arms and a small ratchet, then you don't even need to go under the car to get the rear turbo inlet off.

BoOsTin FD or anyone,

Sorry to intrude, but I'm also experiencing a check engine light. How do I do the check engine light diagnostics? What I mean is, in my honda, the ecu conviently has a led light build in it which would blink codes if something went wrong. I didn't notice any led light on the Rx-7 ecu. Do I have to buy a tool or bring it to a shop to find out whats the cause of my check engine light?

Please help, thanks...

I had the same prob with code 16 flashing once the car warmed up. I was gonna block it off later. I installed the pettit grounding kit which came with one of my orders and light has not flashed since. The grounding kit give the car and ECU a lot better ground. If you do get the kit be sure to do part 2 in the instructions and use the supplied bolt to ground it to the engine block.

I didn't know how to do this either till yesterday when the check engine light came on. Anyway this is how you do it. Right behind the battery in the engine compartment there is small black box named diagnostics. You take a wire or small metal pin and you jam it in the spot where it says TEN And GND. What i mean by jam it is like make a closed circuit. Connect them together or however you want to put it. Then go in the car and turn to key but don't start it and watch the check engine light. One long flash is ten's short flashes are ones. So like One long flash and 6 small ones is code 16, that's what i got.
Hope this helps

Regarding my problem, I don't know what happend but the light doesn't come on anymore. I guess if i messed it up when i washed the engine, maybe now it's dryed out or something. I hope it stays this way. If it doesn't come on tomorrow i guess i don't have to worry about it.
