Cheapest Cold Air Intake?

I tried to put my PFS Stock Mount IC back in the car but it won't fit with the stock airbox. I sold my Pettit intake that I used with it before a while back to pay for my engine rebuild.
I'm running non-seq with a PowerFC and have removed most of the smog stuff (until next time...).
Since I'm broke but want my IC to go back in, what is the cheapest way to make room?
K&N filters? (Is there a cheaper alternative for now?)
Used pettit etc system?
I have lots of tools to fabricate stuff except for a welder.
Thanx!

Making a intake is cheap and simple. I made mine for about $100. 60 for the filters, 10 for the smaller crankcase filters, and some more for pipes, I used exhaust pipe.

Just buy some K&N cone filters and fab a heat shield. That's cheap

Yeah but those are $45 each, so $90 :-(
Know where I can find some $20 filters? I saw some ricer ones in Autozone, looked like the same kind of construction as K&N's.

I am stock, and was wondering if this is okay to do with the stock fuel management. Doesn't it run lean this way? I was also planning on a DP, probably the DP first, but I'm worried that having these two mods will really make me run lean. I've read that the general rule of thumb is that 3+ mods i.e. exhaust, intake, dp, u will start to need fuel management. Ive gotten replies before saying that it should be fine, but I dont want to take any chances, and my air filter is in need of replacement, and I wanted to upgrade the piping and filtration, and come to think of it, maybe even run an FMIC with this setup since I will be replacing the pipes as well.

I don't think that there are many people who would say that running an intake, FMIC, DP and exaust would be very safe, some have done it and others have blown engines.
I have a PowerFC and love being able to read all the sensors as well as not worry about how mnay mods I do.

ok will jus intake n dp you will be fine, its when u put in a mp that your gonna run really lean, also putting in a fmic will make you run lean as well, so if you jus want to put some mods on without having to buy a ecu yet, jus go as far as intake and dp, after that, ecu time.

Any basic designs on the piping? I'm going to be doing the same thing, and will be getting some k&n's or some ricer airfilters... either way I need to know about the lower pipe since its at a crazy angle.

Some of you are just talking out of your ***. You can run many mods with the stock ecu if you restrict boost to 10 psi. At the same time, if you only put on two mods and are hitting over 11 psi in the upper rpm range, you will hit fuel-cut on the stock ecu - bad.

read this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=141090

The point is if you are willing to either install a manual or electronic boost controller or an ecu, mod away. If you're not, put a downpipe on and leave the car alone. Either way, get a boost gauge before you do anything to the car.
