Changed battery - getting some hesitations in upper rpms
I'm getting my car ready to sell and my battery finally died (same battery that came in the car when I bought it 5 years ago) Anyway I went with a cheaper batter (Plus Start) that I got at Sears instead of the Die Hard. This Plus Start was supposed to fit a 93 FD but noticed it was quite a bit smaller and lighter than the other battery. i took it for a few runs and noticed some serious hesitations up top after 5.5K rpms. I was thinking that the PFC went back to base maps but my turbos spool to 15 psi. Dave at KDR says these are typical symptoms of poor charging or low battery. My plugs and wires are fine and don't want to invest in an agnition amp if I don't have to. Has anyone ever run into this?

Interesting. My Miata battery/aka dirty little bastard is completely dead and I haven't noticed any change in performance. It's so dead it is incapable of starting the car. I've been driving around with a portable jump starter in the trunk as a temporary measure until my schedule frees up next week (I'm going to relocate it rather than just drop in a replacement).
Judging by your signature it sounds like you have a very nice car. Maybe it's the car's way of saying "please don't sell me please!-I'll use less gas, and be more reliable-we can work this out, don't abandon me!"

Yeah, I would agree that a check of the charging system is in order. It is possible that the old battery died because it isn't working, and that might explain the hesitations up top. Weak ignition, a drop in fuel pressure, ECU cutting out, etc. could all result from inadequate voltage as you rev it out.

Dave at KDR just had a customer having the same problems on the dyno at 13 psi it would misfire - they changed all the ignition and charging equip. and found it would still misfire - he went home and changed the batter and brought it back and it would run all the way up to 16 psi and was fine - I'm going to try this anyway and see if this could be it. I'm pretty sure my batter died because it's atleast 5 years old.

Barry, what does the voltage show on the commander when your driving it in the upper rpms under load?
I honestly wish I could buy your FD, it's nice and clean and we could keep in in the family sort of speak. Not to mention I'd sell it back to you cheap when your ache for it sets in about 2 weeks later when it's not sitting in your garage. Thanks for taking so great care of it...whoever gets it will know, by example, how to take care of it. I'll get off my soapbox now,
