Center speaker, connection?
I have changed my old factory tape-headunit to a CD unit but then the Center speaker went out, How do I connect it? Has the center speaker its own amp or is it powered by the Tape-unit?
Thanks.
Thanks.

fart on a friends head!!!
that center channel speaker makes that much of a difference? i would cut the wires and spice it into your fronts. most aftermarket cd players dont have a center channel hook-up. so if you have an external amp for your fronts then you can hook up your centerchannel directly to your front wires.

I will change my speakers later in front to a component kit, but for now I thought I could connect the center to my unit, there must be a output signal from the oem tape-unit, the question is if its a low or high level signal,

yes, there is another output from the stock deck. low or High I couldn't tell you. the reason you don't see 5-channel systems anymore is beacause of phasing problems I hear, and a 6-speaker component just sounds better and allows greater imaging when compared to a 5. right now I have a 4 speaker set up, and it is not very noticeable that the center is gone center. only when I stick my head up on my steering wheel. and if you wanted to upgrade the center, you can get speaker out of a JBL home theatre pack, it's got the same size speaker in the center channel. I doubt it'd be worth the effort though...

The stock system was only 3 channels (Left, Right, Rear Subs) the center speaker amp is bridged off the front speakers - the rear speakers are Woofers only.
In the std system the fronts Is Bridged off the HIGH level Outputs from the head unit amp.
In the BOSE system the front is bridged off the low level outputs to the front (door mounted) amps. The Center amp (different & not interchangeable btw std & Bose system) is located under the dash to the right of the glovebox.
I have a center amp for the std (non BOSE) system for sale $25 shipped

The center speaker is powered by it's own amp, but it is fed speaker-level inputs from the left and right. It's the same thing you would do if your head unit did not have line-level pre-outs.
If you are powering your speakers with the new head-unit, just run a left and right speaker-level feed to the center channel amp. If you are using a separate amp, you will have to run the left and right speaker-level feeds from the amp (unless the line-level and speaker-level outputs are both active at the same time on your head unit).
