It'd be a good idea to test all the fuses in the interior. If one fuse went, another may have that you aren't aware of yet. You can buy fuse testers, but it's easier and faster to use a circuit tester. Ground it and just one by one touch all the contacts in the fuse box. If that makes any sense im hoping i helped.

I've had a stereo in my old '86 base do the same thing. See if your stereo has a small Reset button - it's usually under the removable faceplate, or on the faceplate itself. Try hitting that with the car off and see what you get.

If that doesn't do it, pull the stereo out and disconnect the wiring. Hook the ground wire up first, then hook up the electrical connectors.

Does the CD player have an anti-theft device? If so, this could possibly be your problem (had this happen to me once). When activated, cutting power (ie disconnecting the battery) will disable the stereo. You may need to get the reset code from the manufacturer. Just another possibilty worth mentioning.

yeah, was the cd player off when you disconected the battery? and you said your reading lights dont work? i dont even think those are on the same relay. check the code from the manufacturer.

if your reading lights dont work it is deffantly a fuse ( i know stero stuff ) i have instaled many systems in cars most commonly its the actual fuse for the lights not the audio fuse look for one called dome or something of that nature not sure what its called in the fds, i have never been into my fuse box and hopefuly i wont have to be

He said the map lights don't work either; it isn't the stereo.

Since the stereo is aftermarket they probably didn't use the stock power leads. Pull the fuse for the interior lights and see if it's good.
