Cat-Back Power Gain Differences?
I'm curious if anyone has ever shown how much of a power increase there is over say an RB Dual Tip and an Apexi GT Spec 4, or a similar loud/quiet comparisson.

there is no evidence that i know of, either by flow data or hp numbers, comparing any exhaust systems.
my honest opinion is that the difference between a "regular" exhaust system (RB, M2, GReddy SP) and a fartcan (N1, N1 Dual, GT-Spec) is not that significant. my guess is that the butt-dyno will not tell a difference between the RB and Apex cannister systems. also, if the RB exhaust systems do not flow as well, why does Cam from Pettit use it on his 550 hp 20B Banzai?? or how 'bout jimlab with his 600+ hp FD??

Don't go there again. Just say you dislike the big single tip exhausts. period.

honestly, the look of cannister exhaust systems is growin on me. Kakimoto, HKS Ti, HKS Carbon Fiber...im startin to like the way they look. but what i dont like about them is that most of the cannister systems are loud, and do not really sound too good, IMO.
but still, i have not seen any flow data or p numbers to back up the claim that one style of exhaust significantly outflows the other. you cant make good judgements on the power output of an exhaust system simply by design, IMO. and you can not come to the conclusion that loud = high power--free flow, and quiet = low power--restrictive.
just my .02
but i would love to be proven wrong by some actual flow data.

Actually the RB exhaust is available with a 4-inch diameter single tip. Not quite the 5-inch opening some of the fart cans have, but pretty good sized. I could never bring myself to buy a large single tip exhaust. I've seen way too many riced out civics, accords, etc with a huge exhaust tip and I want to distance myself from that crowd as far as possible. That and I really happen to like the look of the dual-tip exhaust. As far as flow goes, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the really free-flowing cannisters have a few more hp at the high end, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they lose a little on the low-end.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really think the fart canon look and sound is obnoxious and would prefer not to have one, however I'm willing to deal with it if it means a significant increase in power over a quieter system. It's a shame we don't have any real data to compare with.
