Carpet

Anyone know where i could get a molded carpet for the FD? Been looking and haven't found anyone offering one. I know i could get a upolstray shop to do it but 99% of the time they just lay carpet over the factory. I want a factory fit one.

Have you tried Mazda? I haven't found any aftermarket molded carpets for the FD yet. If I do, I'll let you know. Josh

There are no aftermarket companies that make molded carpets to fit the FD.

I ended up buying on from mazda.

Gorden Monsen's is a custom carpet, VERY NICE, but not molded.

Why would you want molded anyway? Im not flaming anyone, I just think it is crap. Gmonsen's carpet was custom made to fit the FD and looks/sounds (from what he says) like it fits pretty damn good. The other advantage to the custom carpet is, you can get it in any color and it costs about half as much.

He said it is alot softer too.

I wanted a molded carpet that is different that the factory if you read the above posts. I want molded because i want it to fit perfect like the factory, and to be a higher quality. The companies that make custom molded carpets offer them in many different colors and types. I was a car stereo installer for three years and ive seen alot of shitty carpet jobs. Sure the look good after the are done but once your start pulling apart the panals and such, its a pain in the *** to get everything back into where its asposed to be. Due to the fact that most custom interiors are just carpet layed over and glued to the factory and the added thickness makes it difficult for panels to fit perfectly anymore esp panals that are have been removed often because the clips get weak. I want to do all the work on the car myself also so im not going to bring it anywhere to get a carpet done. I dont trust anyone with my car, ive had bad experiances in the past and know alot of people that have had thier cars either broke in, stolen, striped, and messed with while being worked on someplace.

someone needs to start making aftermarket molded carpets for the 3rd gens. I think they would profit greatly. I wish I had the resources. I replaced mine with black and bought it through Mazda. It took 4 months to get and cost a mint. Looks great though.

Im telling you man, just do the search and read the posts. This guy didnt **** around with his carpet and he has pics to prove how well it fits. Molded carpet is low quality ****. OEM manufacturers use it because it is cheaper than hell to make.

Ok Travisorus....

HAVE YOU DONE A SEARCH? Do you remember what Gorden paid for his carpet?
Gorden did use higher quality carpet but it wasn't "half as much".

Here I did the search for you:

The carpet from Mazda is around $750 (I just double check this price that I paid when I entered it on my Quicken account)

Molded carpets arnt all crap, I've seen ones from AccMatts.com in a civic and it was a good quality, and you have choice of color and about 6 of 7 different types of carpet. but of course nothing for the FD. They make everything elise for the FD you would think someone would make a molded carpet. Its not like its that big of a carpet. Not quite ready to do carpet right now anyway, Got the car in a 100 pieces right now, but im probly going to check with yankee upholstery when im ready unless i hear of a molded one in the next few months. I just want black carpet that has a smoother look to it then the factory.
