car won't start HELP!!!

94 RX-7 (automatic)
i'm about to buy an rx-7. ad says "needs some engine work" so i call and ask what's wrong and the guy told me that the car won't start and "that's all". so i go check it out and of course it doesn't start. the overhead dome lights don't go on but all of the instruments cluster buttons light up, including the turn signal blinkers. even his turbo timer starts up.
but anyways, he said that his car had been sitting there for a year and he tries to start it out the blue one day and it won't go. you can hear it crank but i guess it's not catching. tried jumping it with my accord, used a battery pack and also tried both at the same but wouldn't go. when i tried both it seemed like more power was going thru but it still didn't start.

diagnostics? two cents?
any idea on what's wrong and how to get it to start?

also can someone with a carfax description check the VIN for me -

thanx

ximi,

weren't you selling your 94T? how is that going?

I'd check to make sure the fuel pump is working Make sure there is some fuel pressure, and then check the plugs to see if spark is being produced.

To my experience boosting a Rx7 with a dead battery may not work, try a fresh one or if you are brave enough; push starting it with another car..

I know what your saying, ximi ,borrow one from another car, install it (clean all connections) and go from there. If you want to make some money you have to put some work in it. When you jump an car, not all cranking amps are getting to the starter, specially HD rotary starters. Therefore the starter dont spin the engine fast enough. Thats what happened to me several times already and Im just passing on the knowledge. Good luck.
