Car won't hook in 2nd Gear...

Anyone else have this problem. I finally got a chance to bang a gear or two. I don't remember my old FD doing this. Maybe it's because of the faster spooling turbo? I'm running Bridgestone Potenza 275's.

I haven't done 3rd gear yet but the previous owner says it sometimes breaks loose also. I was gonna take it to the track on tuesday to see the MPH but I dunno now, I don't want to put it into a wall.

This stupid thing is violent.

Maybe I'm just being a lil biatch.

My FD would spin violently with a hard shift to 2nd, with both 265/35r18 Kumho MXs and with 285/30 BFGs. I have a few vids from a local 1/4 track where I have to let off because she got so sideways I was coming close to kissing a wall. This was with stock turbos and ~300whp.

I have these and they hold pretty good M/T ET Street 26 x 10.50-16 on FD Factory rims and it made a world of difference. Im putting down 520 HP. I was having the same problem. I couldn't get the car to hook for nothing not 1st, 2nd or 3rd and these made a very significant change.

I already have a set of ET Streets mounted up on the stockers but that's not what I'm wanting. I need something in a 17 that will have some bite but not cause ignorant wheel hop.

I have 235s on my gt35r atm. Havent broke them loose cause today is the first day ive ran it on the street. :-D its disheartening to see 275s have problems on a t04r.

Ha, I know.... I hate getting old!

What is DGRR? If it's soon, count me out right now. I've got two weeks to get my house ready for sale and I can't get any work done cause I'm too busy playing with the 7!

Run the Nitto DRs! (They make a 275 for a 17 ) They're solid tires for street use. That's what we all run down here...

I have the Kumho MXs in 255/40/17 and 32psi cold and at ~15psi on my GT35R I have no traction till third. I drive around on WG spring pressure of ~10-11psi so I can get traction. My biggest problem is that I'm still running a stock suspension, lol.

This is what happens when you a get a turbo that actually hits positive pressure before 5k rpm

I guess so. With my old car, I'd need to shift right about when the tire would start to slip!

I'm loving this whole small turbo thing!

That's not an "extreme" performance tire by today's standard, but it's no slouch. You can find a stickier street tire or go with a drag tire for the street. However, you will have to make a sacrifice somewhere whether that's money, wet performance, cornering, or just right foot usage.

By no means is my car anywhere close to yours in power output, but I will say street temps and tire temps make all the difference. On a cool Chicago spring or fall day with overcast skies where the sun hasn't been beating on the pavement, it may take a good 15mins of semi spirited driving to allow me to put my foot all the way into it without the rear end popping out a bit and this is with some upgraded suspension 265/18s on the rears and only 310ish RWHP. Once the sun is able to warm up the road a lil, I can practically hook it up right out of the driveway. This would be a 50-55 degree day.

BTW, just bought Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs for my CTS-V, and these tires will be going on the FD. They are truly amazing tires especially for the price.

How old are the tires? They lose their grip after 3 or 4 years. I had a 3 year old set of 265 yokohama's that wouldn't grip in 2nd or 3rd... switched to Kumho ecstas mx's and it solved the problem. I now have Direzza's z-star 275's and have zero problems.

Also, make sure your tire pressure is 30 psi or less and the rear shocks are not set too stiff (if they're adjustable).
