Unhappy this car is truly sent from hell....

got the car back from the shop about two and a half months ago. had a "new" jdm engine put into the car as well as a new emissions harness. I got the car back and its running like a dream and i did a lot of driving to break everything in nice an easy, and this past weekend i moved from central cali to oregon, but on the way up i was driving on I5 and all was going well until i was about an hour south of the border and all of a sudden i hear a ka-CHUNK and the engine revs to 8k and 5th gear is gone. I pulled over as soon as i could, but still had to drive another 1/8th of a mile in 4th so i wouldnt get hit. I know 5th is probably gone, but i just need some conformation that its the actual gear that blew up and not just the syncro.

All things said, I am obviously looking for a new tranny, and am wondering if anyone knows of any good import shops in the central oregon area who may be able to help me out.

I would call rob at pineapple racing. He might have a good idea of what the problem is and he is the closest shop that could help you with the tranny.

Used tranny in 3gen parts = cheap

new engine = not.

as long as its only the transmission, I'd be thankful.

sorry to hear the frustration. I've been there and its sucks to have something go out when you just got it back together again. Hopefully its nothing big and can be replaced readily. Here's hoping you get back in the 7 soon!

Where in Oregon did you move to?

There are quite a few rotorheads in the Willamette Valley, between Eugene and Portland, with a few more scattered throughout the state.

mhmm. try buying an rx7, having it die the next day, swapping an entire motor and transmission, and then having the turbos go south three days later.

Luckily, transmissions are relatively cheap in a comparison to everything else on these cars, and I'm sure you will get your mess sorted out.

ouch.... thats terrible. I moved to the Corvallis area, right around Lebanon/Sweet Home. I've already started trying to source a new tranny, so hopefully ill be able to get my car back up and running soon. the problem ive been running into is finding a tranny that doesn't have too many miles on it, so i dont have something similar happening again soon.

In any case thank you all for the help, ive already called Rob at pineapple, but i got his voicemail so maybe ill get it rebuilt but at this point ill probably go with the cheapest option.

If you're not doing the tranny removal and reinstall yourself (ie free) then the cheapest long term solution is a proper rebuild.

The FD didn't get nicknamed "Financial Disasters" for no reason.

Glad you're getting it sorted out. Just read through the forums lots of information about transmission installs.
