car smokes when turned on...wat cud be wrong?

whenever i start my car up, usually when its cold, the car gives out very thick white smoke from the exhaust, it smells horrible as well, i cant really understand what the smell is...so i cant say nething, but all i see is very white smoke from the exhaust...

also, i took my car to my friends shop and he was changning my oil, he realized that ther is a lot of corrosion in the inside of the cap, both on the radiator cap and the oil cap, its all white around...is that normal? are either problems normal on the fd's?

its a 1994 rx7... ne help/advice? thanks.

If it pours out enough "white smoke" to kill every mosquito in the vicinity, then you may have a problem. If it's just some puffs that go away after the car warms up, it's just burning off the moisture condensation in the exhaust (steam).

The "corrosion" in the filler neck is moisture in the oil sump condensing as the engine warms up, and mixing with the oil. You need to fully warm up the engine and run it for a while to burn that stuff off; if it still remains after you've driven the car for a while (say, a good 30 minute or longer drive), then you may have a problem.

Yea I bet $20 your coolant seals are shot and the engine needs a rebuild.

Gotta love them rotary engines. Ya, im predicting some bad seals too. Does the exaust smell sweet? I believe autozone has a kit to check for exaust in the coolant. You should do that, I believe this will help you find the answer you have been avoiding.

I dont think its serious.. It could just be a thermal issue until everything gets up to temp.
Does it do it when the cars been driven for 3 minutes?

an o ring, hmmm,

anyways, i would not jump to a blown engine conclusion.

first how long does the car smoke for after it is cranked? if only for about 10-20 min, that is normal for an rx7, just burning a little condensation and oil, but if it continues to smoke after 10-20 min you have a problem.

remember its winter, hot exhaust, cold air, equals smoke

sniff the exaust for a coolant smell, if you dont know what that smells like, take the cap off the radiator and smell.

do these simple things and write back with your findings,

thanks

hey, thanks for the help...

the car smokes for about 10 minute and continues to smoke until i rev the engine, once i rev the engine after the engine has been warmed up, a big puff of white smoke comes out and then it stops smoking...

as for the white condensation, i jus bought the car and i had to drive it 300 miles back home, so the corrosion is still on the car... i bought the car off a person off of this forum, sprockett i believe is his screen name, but he had jus placed a brand new motor in the car and just had a rebuilt on it, he did tell me that the turbos are going bad and that the car needs a fuel filter and that the injectors dont have o rings, so im assuming now that this is fuel related...and backup advice on this will really help..thanks

It could also be your turbos..... Check your oil level. If its low, fill it again. Check the exaust tip to see if there is oil residue.... After filling your oil drive around a little and check you level again..... If it is low again It may also mean bad turbos....
