car runs fine -- car wont start after long day of rain...

ok im confused. just went to start the car and it wont turn over...

i drove the car 24 hrs ago (in dry weather) and it ran perfect. then i parked it outside of my house.

since then, its been rainining non-stop...heavy rain all day that just let up a few hours ago. much of my school is flooded but the car wasnt sitting in any big puddles or anything.

i have a vented hood, but the 'rain shield' was bolted in so i know everything should be dry. (ive washed my car several times & driven in rain before with the 'rain shield' on so i know thats not the problem. the air filters with also dry so i know they didnt get wet)

this is what the car is doing:
the battery is not dead. i turn the key and everything comes on like normal but the starter just sits there and cranks. i can hear a muffled 'wub wub wub' noise coming from the motor but she just wont turn over. it almost sounds like its flooded (but how would it be flooded?)

i have never had any engine problems before (except for a cracked LIM gasket that was replaced several months ago) i just hit 50k miles and the car has been running great. no boost issues, no stalling, no problems at idle or redline...

this is kind of out of no where. any ideas what the problem could be?

Can you hear the fuel pump priming?

Do you have the stock intercooler? Just asking because it looks like your vents head right into it. I know you said you have a rain shield but they are not that great and while driving the rain probably evaporates as it touches the heated shield/engine(why you drive in the rain with no problems). And not enough water while washing it to do any damage.

I don't know, weird things happen like that and the next day it will be fine. Try it tomorrow if it's not raining.

I have a Mazdaspeed hood on with vents and it starts up right away without any rain shield during bad weather. Is there any possibility you have any openings (hoses, air intake, hard pipes) that are open to the environment and possibly having water get in there?

Good luck.

have you tried unflooding it? pull the sparkplugs and take a look (a flooded engine wont unflood itself over time).

id say first check spark, then check if your getting fuel, then check compression.
obviously your missing one of the above

I had the same problem of running one day then not after it rained, turned out my windshield leaked and dripped into the little black computer by the fuse panel, pulled it out and set it over a vent in my house for a few days to dry out and it started right up, fixed leak and zipped tied a gallon ziploc bag with a hole cut into the bottom to breath, runs fine now
