Car reads normal oil pressure, but low oil level.

I have searched for something similar, but I couldn't find anything. While driving around, the low oil level light came on briefly. Oil pressure was reading 60-80psi cruising which from what I have read is normal. When I got home I checked the oil level and it was sitting on L (Low). My question is this. Would my oil pressure still read at normal levels even though I have low oil? This doesn't seem right. What would cause this to happen? I am using both my stock gauge and an aftermarket Defi Gauge to confirm this. Thanks!

Yes, the light comes on when the oil is low to give you warning, not when its OMG your fucked. Its not a good idea to run that low though because it can starve under hard cornering. Oil pressure should only change if its starving which is already bad.

^-- what he said , Spun bearings are ExPENSIVE!

you do know you need to add oil periodically to the motor since it injects crank case oil into the motor to lubricate correct?

The oil pressure gauge , is independant from the low oil warning light if you check your oilpan the sensor on it is the low oil warning , and the oil pressure sensor is on the left side of the motor near the oil filter under it .

Like was stated above its a warnning light not an Oh motor's blown light lol

Pressure and capacity. Two different things.
