Car idles incredibly rich...stumbles

After a single turbo installation I start my car and it idles almost off the scale rich on my wideband...hovering from 9.8:1 - 10.4:1. Of course at this AFR it can't run smooth and it smokes badly, smelling like an out of tune lawn mower.

My ignition system worked perfectly before the install and nothing was changed or disconnected during the install. So I am sceptical of that being the culprit. I will change plugs to some brand new NGK 9s all around. I had a worn out battery, I replaced that with a brand new one, and I still have the problem.

So I move from that system to the fuel system. It seems like it is either getting too much fuel...or not enough spark. Could it be at too high a fuel pressure at idle? I have the SARD FPR...how do you adjust it down? RIght now it is at about 40 psi at idle.

I have the RE secondary rail and bosch 1600cc injectors, a Jacobs Rotary Pro Pack ignition amplifier on a TII coil, Power FC (calibrated correctly Chuck Westbrook helped me with that).

I swapped maps back the PFC default and it didnt help or hurt...same afr at idle.

What should I check next?

There's a nut holding the adjustment screw for the fuel pressure regulator. Loosen it and you can adjust the pressure up or down by turning the adjustment screw right or left with a hex key.

Sounds like your boost reference line may be off on the regulator, for it to be that high though...

With the vacuum line attached the pressure should be 28-32 psi at idle according to the manual. With it off, it should be around 40psi. 26-28 psi at idle gives me a 12-13 AFR which works best for me on my motor, but I'm running 850's in the primaries so I run the fuel pressure a little low to help me lean out the car at idle.

I changed to all new plugs and it helped but it is still really bad. If I take as much fuel out as possible with the PFC and drop the idle fuel pressure to about 25psi I can see an 11.8:1 afr on my wideband. When I pulled my stock plugs out the ones on the rear rotor were wet with fuel. The trailing plug on the front rotor was also wet...

All of them were totally black, and I just cleaned them last night.

I am still wondering what can be the source of this hugely rich condition. If I have a miss fire in my ignition would that cause the wideband in the downpipe to read rich?

I also have a lot of smoke, I think it has to be related to how rich it is running...but it is grey smoke.

I guess the only plus is that it idles nice and steady at 900rpm and doesn't die...it is just so rich.

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

did you set the base pressure with the vac/boost source disconnected? you are supposed to

verify that you have spark.
