Question Car finally started after 5 months! But...

OK....So heres the story: My FD has been down for the past 5 months. It originally was down due to bad fuel system, fuel rails were not holding pressure and 2 of the injectors were leaking. So i had the car taken to my friend/mechanic and fellow RX-7 owner Reese, some of the local SC guys may know him) He is a great guy and knows a lot about RX-7's. He is basically the guru in our area so i felt comfortable taking the car to him. Once it was there he was more then willing to help me fix the problem wich was: (replaced prim. & second. rails and all 4 stock injectors). At the same time fixing that problem another problem came up... Reese and i noticed the engine harness was so brittle that some of the clips and wires broke trying to get to the rails and some in some places the harness was already broken. SO... i ended up having to get a new one because mine had no hope and was unfixable. So thanks to Ray Crowe, i got Brand New one relativly cheap. Thanks Ray! And while i was at it me and Reese decided it would be much easyer to work on the car if it didnt have so many of those damn Vac. hoses and that would hopefully lessen the chance of somthing to go wrong with the car... So i went ahead and did a non.sequential conversion with a new set of turbo's i had picked up from one of the forum members here with fewer miles then mine had. (Car, motor, & twins have 50K original mi, new set of twins 20K mi) Anyway, after waiting what seemed like forever on the block off plates for the conversion they finally arrived and Reese put them on. Once the harness and new turbos and block off plates were all on and everything was wired up and put together it seemed like i was going to be getting my car back really soon, but something came up with him and his family and the finall touches and tweeks had to be put off for a while.... Well anyway, a little while after that he had the car running and brought it back over to my house. At first i was so exited to be getting my car back after so long.... He came over and said well it runs; but.... only thing was it wasnt building boost right, and he couldnt figure out what it was, not to mention it was smoking like crazy. So by the time he got it to my house and i got to drive it around the block like 2 twice it died. It was running so rich the spark plugs got fauled out just from him driving from my his house to my house and me going around the block twice. So after buying new spark plugs and changing those, last night i got the car to start again! But, this is where i need your guys help and suggestions. The car has the same problems: It will be fine up to 10 pounds then if you go past that it will like jerk and come down. Maybe the PFC isnt picking up a solonoid or maybe it has something to do with the non.sequential conv. ..idk..Reese is currently looking into it as well. Also there is a good amount of smoke coming from under the turbo's and LIM... and theres the same smoke, but a lot more, comming out of the exhaust which makes me think its leaking somewhere between the turbos and somehow getting into the downpipe which really doesnt make sence to me... i dont think the guy i bought the turbo's from "on here" gave me a bad set, because he seemed like a nice guy and i dont think he would rip anyone off. So i think/hope its not the turbo's. Any suggestions on whats causing or where all the smoke is comming form or what to change on the PFC or how to make the boost problem go away please please please let me know...i want to be able to drive my RX-7 again!

Thanks guys,
Zach

Thought you'd need a little help, isn't that much easier to read ?

Sounds like you had way too much work done at much by someone who isn't a professional (no offense to Reese, been there myself). These cars are complicated and if you make 17 changes at once a lot can go wrong......

My advice is to take off the UIM and go back through and check ALL the work performed.

Yes - I learned the hard way that making more than one or two changes at once is not a good idea.

Even though the seller may have vouched for the turbos, it is hard to evaluate a set when they are off the car. The oil seals may be gone in them. Though, it sounds like you have vacuum hose issues too.

Thanks for the editing and for the advice... idk i guess it just seemed like a good idea at the time to go ahead and do the conversion and definatly needed a new harness, but i guess maybe somewhere somthing went wrong. We are going to go back over everything again and check for errors.

We can check that as well... i didnt think there would be too many vac hoses to have an issue after the conversion tho, but anythings possible and i appriciate the help. Thanks!

Make sure you dont have the Fuel Temp and Coolant temp connectors switched. Easy mistake and will cause the car to smoke really heavily on cold days.

Why are you going past 10lbs with the car untuned? That is asking for disaster.

True, and sorry about the paragraphs. Kinda my first time posting somthing like this and i am relativly new to the forums. I'll be sure to include spacing for the paragraphs next time i type somthing that long. Oh, btw i started the car up agian today (durring the day) and noticed smoke comming from under the car kinda looks like its comming from the down pipe.. and there was also smoke still comming from below the LIM and also noticed what looked to be an oil spot on the ground right under the down pipe... Still waiting to hear back from my friend on the PowerFC setting. Oh yeah, also there is a pretty loud wine type of noice comming from the engine bay somewhere seems to be loudest where the smoke is comming from...leak maybe....bad gasket on LIM? idk... any suggestions guys??

Thanks!

pull the EGI fuse to disable spark, make sure you have enough battery voltage (probably best to jump it just in case), and crank it 4-5 times for 10 seconds at a shot.

You comin' down to Deal's Gap this year?

What are your mods? I don't know if it's me but could you be hitting fuel cut on the stock ECU? Did I miss something? I think it's a bit too late in the night for me...

You will know if the LIM leaks when the car idle high all the time. I think your turbo is bad.

I hope its not the turbo's. The guy i bought them from on here said they were in good condition and never ran over stock boost with under 30K origional miles. Hopefully its not that... anyone else have any thoughts on what could be causing any of these problems?

Thanks.

Map sensor is plugged in, i think its just running really rich. But that still doesnt explain where the smoke is comming from behind the UIM area. Also i'm almost 100% sure its a oil leak.

Ha! I owe you a beer after I almost killed you with your own car

93red dragon, the smoke is coming from behind the UIM? does your clutch work ok? wonder if it's the rear main seal.
