Car is apart, wedge collar questions

Ok tore the car down, entire tranny out pressureplate off etc *2hours 5minutes, my personal best time taking it out with the car sitting on the ground on jackstands* Anyways, im replacing the wedgecollar on the clutch.. I put the new wedgecollar in installed the ring *all supplied by Malloy Mazda, highly recommend them, thanks for source mahjik* but.. im paranoid because i notced even with the new collar in.. the actual wedgecollar will putt away from hte pressure platea bout 1/4-1/2 inch, which makes me think the same thing will happen again.. did I do somethingwrong or is this how its supposed to be? Any help appreciated.

Matt

The wedge collar will pull out that much until the ring comes in contact with the PP. Everything sounds normal to me. As long as the collar ring doesn't pull out of the PP you are all set. One thing to check before going back in with everything is to make sure that none of the "teeth" on the wedge collar are bent. If they are it can release the ring and then cause problems with the operation of the clutch system.

Other than that everything should be OK
