MS cant find replaceable element fuel filter

I was driving my rx the other day and at high revs about 5-6k it leaned out. I searched fuel filters and found out that the stock one from Ray cost 50$ and is a pain to replace. While I am doing it I might as well change it to a replaceable filter but now I can't find one. I was hoping to get it from summit but I couldn't find one any ideas?

Might not be up your alley but look at Kinsler Fuel Injection (kinsler.com). I use their BRL filter with 10micron paper element, 35 sq.in. filter area. It will cost close to $100 to convert including fittings, etc. but replacement elements are then $17.60.

You have an automatic FD that seems to be mostly stock except for a full exhaust. Why exactly do you think you are running lean? How much boost are you running?

Unless you have a Wideband Air / Fuel setup, you have no idea whether you are running rich or lean....

Since I can't foresee your answers, it would be too early for me to say that you are probably hitting fuel cut due to boost creep. You need to keep your boost at 10 PSI unless you have fuel system mods that we don't know about. 10 maybe 12 PSI max is all the stock fuel system will support.

I've only owned the car since December I do not know how much it is boosting. I have bought a boost gauge but have not had time to put it on yet. I also have an air/fuel gauge I will be installing. I guess I do not understand what exactly boost creep is.

wow. im confused. You say it is leaning out? You have no way of telling if it is or not. How did you arrive at the conclusion that your car is running lean?

around 5k it started to how do i put this shudder. You could feel it pull and stop, pull and stop really fast. In other car's I have owned the fuel filter caused this. It's probably boost spike or creep though. This weekend I am going to install the boost gauge air/fuel and water temp. I need to find a tutorial on how to install a manual boost controller like the one's made from home depot but im going to buy it off of e-bay. I am also going to install a restrictor plate. It has a 3inch exhaust. I think aftermarket downpipe and a high flow cat. Another note it was also 20 degrees f. outside.

How much fuel was in the car? if it was low that could be the sloshing around. If it was full than it could possibly be your fuel filter.

Not that low I never let it get past a quarter of a tank. I really think it might have been boost creep but I am going to change the filter also. Im not sure where to put the T in for my gauge. I wish I could get the gauge hood off so I could wire the boost gauge to the dimmer switch but I cant figure it out for the life of me. There are those two bolts but I cant find anything else.

uhh... boost creep? Boost creep is exactly that... creeping boost. You shouldn't have shuddering from that. Instead of 10-8-10... boost creep would be like 10-8-11/12... get it... the boost is creeping. All it is is MORE boost than 10.

and unless you have a wideband to go with that air/fuel gauge, it's useless.

I think you are hitting fuel cut or coming close to hitting it and that is what you are feeling. When your boost creeps uncontrollable to levels the ecu can't support and it cuts fuel to try and keep the motor from blowing.

Seriously dude. You are so close to blowing your engine. Stop going full throttle on the car until you get the boost gauge and a cat in the car. I'd recommend you install a high flow cat over a restrictor plate.

if it was fuel cut it would feel like hitting a wall. I dont know if this is what you are experiencing or not, but i do suggest getting a boost gauge.

It's nothing like hitting a wall. Just a little shutter feeling. I've read bad sparkplugs could cause it. Boost gauge will be going in this weekend. Restrictor plate maybe monday If my exhaust guy can make me one. The car already has a 3ft long cat or glasspack whatever you want to call it. It only did it that one time when it was like 20 degree's outside so i really dont know. I'm looking at manual boost control but until I can find out EXACTLY how they work I will hold off.
