You don't need a pic, and you need to chill a bit. It should be in the dead center, pointing straight at 9 o'clock or a hair below. If it starts going north, you should start getting nervous. Wire up the fan switch mod so you can control your fans in stop and go traffic, etc.

as long as it's just sitting stable anywhere NEAR the midpoint, you are fine, you don't need a pic, honestly.

if you understood how the gauge works, you'd understand that.

Not be harsh, rx7kcass but you can be TOO paranoid about this car. You need to relax a little or owning this car is going to kill you. Your gauge is working fine. As long as it's stable, your car is fine. Besides, if you're that worried now, getting your aftermarket gauge will probably give you a coronary. That needle moves all over the place, and sitting in hot traffic will not be comforting. (All reasons why the stock gauge is so middle oriented in the first place.)

In the six months I went without an aftemarket gauge the ONLY time my stock needle went above 9 o'clock is when it overheated. As long as it stays below center, relax. Rynberg is right though, if you do get an aftermarket gauge, you're going to need a Prozac prescription to go with it.

it doesn't matter much where it is as long as it doesn't move. The exact position it stops is different in every car.

Can you be sure the person you bought it from didn't already linearize the stock gauge?

The problem is "normal" or the needle being horizontal on the FD temp guage can be 240F!.And even though you might have never over heated, or the temp guage needle has never moved up the low speeds fans dont turn on untill 230F this is "normal". No wonder these motors over heat or have o-ring problems.
