Can someone exlain CORNER SEALS and SIDE SEALS?

Hey people. Im still learning about rotaries and such. I've read all the sites regarding how rotaries work, but no one explains what side and corner seals are? Can someone explain it to me. I'm completely baffled.

I think it would be easie to show you than to explain it...I may have to take a picture first.

BUT...apex seals are at the "tips" of the rotors. Total of 6 in each engine. Corner seals are at the corners of each "tip" Since there's two sides to each apex seal, you'll have 2 corner seals. Inbetween each corner seal on the sides of the rotors(the part that contacts the front/intermediate/rear housings) is the side seals.

...see what I mean...let me get a picture

Wheres the oil seal? And why is there a need for a side seak? Isnt the rotor housing completely flat, and the rotor too. So wouldnt that already make a seal?

The side seal doesn't have anything to do with the rotor housings. the side seal touches the intermediate and end plates. they are flat, you still need seals there(think of the piston rings of a piston powered car).
