Can I tell if an ECU was tuned by M2!

Hey guys,

I recently bought a M2 ECU from a person over the forum. I just want to know if theres a way to tell if the ECU was tuned by them. Its not that I think this guy ripped me off, I just want to make sure before I put it on with other mods. Don't want to put my car in danger of leaning out. The cover was a stock one but looked like it had been fooled with. I emailed M2 a few times but they never answer me. I'am hoping they keep records of the ECU's they have tuned. I do have a seriel number so if that helps. Is there a way I can tell by looking at the hardware inside?

Street King,

I think everyone who buys a used M2 Ecu askes this same question...lol. I know that I did! The answer is from just looking a the 'box' from the outside, is NO. I have been told that if you open up the 'box', you should see some new chips installed, possibly with M2 engineering labels on them. So I've heard, I was too lazy to unistall and open mine up. So far so good.

Also, you won't notice any hp gains just by installing it. I didn't.

I noticed that you are runnig Non-seq: At what rpm are you getting max boost? I recently went non-seq and I have the same ecu as you, but my max boost is at 4500-4800 rpm! Are you seeing the same TURBO LAG??

Thanks,
John

Actually the non-seq. will take place in a few days. I might just wait till the mid pipe goes in along with the intake and ECU so I wont have to wait til 5k rpms to spool.

You might wanna ask around because most people seem to be getting full boost by 3500 rpms.

you don't want to use a midpipe with that ECU. Get a power FC and port your wastegate. I have a friend who used the M2 ecu with a midpipe and blew his motor. M2 recommends using the ecu for only intake, exhaust, ic, and dp.

If you open up your ECU, you will see some stuff sautered there, that's how you know it's been tampered with.

Yeah sorry about that I ment high flow cat. Although I dont see why you cant run a mid pipe on your car with an M2 ecu. Does the car knwo your running an M2 so it blows the motor. If you can run a highflow cat and not a mid pipe, thats kinda weird. Iam sure m2 knows what they are doing. Does pettit add that much more fuel to their ECU than m2 to run a mid pipe. Even so I wont but when it is time for one iam selling the m2.

"Hey there, I just bought a used m2 stage 3 ECU. I would like to know if theres any way I could tell if it was tuned by you. Theres no M2 cover on it so it would have to be somehting inside. Any help would be appreciated. Also I do have a seriel number so is there any way that you kept records on ECU tunning?"

Thanx,
Jonas

"Hello Jonas,
You need to open up the cover and look at the chips inside the ECU. If we did a stage 3 it will have a 5 and 16 number on the top of the chips. Hope that helps."
