Also, just to add my own nonsense to the thread, when I bought my FD, it had this issue. The door had actually fragmented into 6 or 7 pieces and become jammed in the lock. After cleaning it out, I never replaced the plastic door and thus far haven't had any problems...

Forget about the clear plastic, forget about the locksmith, forget about a Mazda OEM tumbler assembly, forget about the little light back in there that does nothing - make one yourself out of 18 gauge Stainless steel. Rough cut if out with a dremel, then shape it with a file. DO NOT LOSE the little spring in the door, you will be strapped to find a replacement, trust me.
You DO NEED this little door to keep out dust and water or you'll see problems later in the winter, or when it's seized up
Look at the picture of one I made and before it's polished.
I will make these for anyone interested who is too lazy to do it.

Until reading this thread I didn't even know that the lock was lit.
I had noticed the smalldoor didn't flip back on mine and just figured the spring snapped/had gone missing.
I went investigating this evening and found that the bulb had burnt out, one of the connectors on the bulb had snapped off and that the plug in the door was left unplugged. WTF?
Plugged it back up and checked for voltage, yes!
I replaced the bulb with a resistor and a red flat LED, like this one:
The shape of the LED allows you to aim it a bit down into the lock.
Next was fixing the door itself, this description is really accurate:

When opening the lock I found the spring to be intact and the door snapped, looking much like the pic posted by the TS.
I made a new door from a breadclip by cutting it with a hobby knife and filing it to size:
Put everything back together and it worked like a charm.
Now lets hope this door holds.

That's just a clip of the same type I googled, the one I used was white.
I put a vid of it on youtube of it. Lamest function on the whole car, but I couldn't stand that it wasn't working.
