Anyone else notice this? you have to slip the clutch more to take off when the A/C is on vs. off, huge drag on the little engine!

It really shouldn't be that bad. My old RX-7 convertible felt like I tossed an anchor out with the AC on. If it's very noticeable, you may want to find an R-12 oil charge. It's a black cylinder that you screw onto the low pressure AC fitting then you tighten the other end with a wrench. This forces a small charge of refrigerant oil into the system. Helped my old 'vert out some.

you guys are being too critical of my post here, obviously i know the a/c compressor puts a big load on the engine and creates a lot of drag, my point is i have to slip and take off at a higher rpm than normal otherwise it bogs, much moreso than any other car i've ever owned (owned many turbo/na 4 cylinders) jeez

It's barely noticeable on my car, if at all. If I remember correctly, doesn't the engine idle a little bit higher when the A/C is on? This should compensate for any parasitic power loss. Maybe the extra idle isn't kicking in on your car? Or maybe you have a clutch problem? Or maybe it's psychosomatic? I know if I go looking for a problem, I'll usually find one.

Its not really bad on my car either but i can notice it when in heavy traffic in the middle of the day when its really hot out and sunny. But my car doesnt aways idle higher with the a/c on. Stop and go traffic sucks with this car.

Yeah, I'd have to doublecheck that. As I remember, if I start up the car cold (without the 3,000 rpm warmup atrocity) and then I push the A/C on, the idle will be bumped up a bit. Also, the radiator fans will go to a higher speed if you put the A/C ventilation fan on #4.
