Bye Bye Engine

Well, I knew it was bound to happen eventually, but it did tonight.

On my way home from work, I got onto the highway, and punched it in 4th gear, then... car bucks, puff of black smoke, immediate loss of power, and tears in my eyes.

It won't idle, I have to keep my foot on the gas otherwise it stalls. I have very little power, as in can't get it to move if under about 3k rpms. And it just plain won't accelerate after about 40mph.

Upon getting it home, I opened the hood to a plume of black smoke, and it continued for about 2 minutes. No visible fluid leakage, but lots of smoke. All coming from the back of the rear rotor.

So, another FD has a blown engine, but hey, look on the bright side, I get a street port out of it, and more power

Sorry to hear about the mishap. When I blew my motor I looked on the bright side and thought of a street port .

Sorry....but why did it blow? That is the only important thing here.

The way you describe it you won't be getting any streetport with those housings. You totally threw an apex seal and you will need to replace a rotor and rotor housing most likely.

LOL, hey I KNOW it's the common response but there's a REASON it's a common response... you're just upset you didn't post it first...

Sorry about the motor, 911GT2. Good luck with your rebuild.

That'd be nice, but will you pay off the 9.5k i owe on the loan too??

Unless you meant 4k for the blown engine? (LOL)

Why did it blow?? I don't really know, i have 102k on the odometer, I don't know if it's the original engine, I've only owned the car for 2months. I imagine it was just old and its time. It was only holding like 15 or 16in HG on idle, so i think it was its time.

I'm getting a Malloy Mazda motor ported by KDR, install beginning May 19 in case anyone wants to know, the motor, porting, removal and reinstallation it gonna be about $4300 to $4500. as Dave at KDR said, ouch.

I'm almost done with this v-8 conversion and need another subject for the conversion.
4K for an FD with a blown motor? Talk about low balling.. Geesh. It would have to be pretty **** poor shape for that price

C'mon guys, I was really hoping someone (besides rynberg ) would say, "no the motor might not be blown" I'm not even close to an expert on blown motors here, but is there even a shadow of a doubt?

How is the V8 conversion coming along, youre car is going to be stupid fast when youre done.It looks like that LS1 fits with plenty of clearance too.

Just take it to a Mazda dealer and have them run a compression check on the engine. Even if they don't follow the procedure perfectly, you'll know if you've lost a seal or not.

In all seriousness, HAVE you checked to see if the hose is still connected to the MAP sensor (and intake manifold)?

15 or 16 hg in vacuum is pretty good for stock engine. Anything above 14 is good. I don't know how did it blow then. Did you overboosted, got spikes or something?

I get like 17 or 18 vacuum at idle and sometimes with parking lights and fans on i get 15 but that doesn't mean my engine is going bye bye.
