Buying my first FD
Hello all ive been a fan of Mazda Rx-7's since i found out what they were. I have come across an oppourtunity to buy a 93 fd with an Apex computer and I think a T-66 turbo (correct me if that dosent sound right). The car has a blown apex seal on the engine in the car, However another engine without a blown seal is included. Im wondering how big of a project it would be to swap the engines. Also any links to rotary engine shops in southern Cali would be great.

J & G Automotive.... a guy named Gazo would be the speacialist for this....... the shop is located on foothill blvd. in La Crescenta, CA (next to burbank, glendale, pasadena)... the number for the shop is 818-957-7530

I wouldn't buy it unless I was certain of the quality and condition of the replacement engine.
Plus, you need to find out if the turbo on there wasn't shredded by the apex seal shards. That's an expensive part to replace.
The swap itself isn't much worse than any other engine swap.

Do yourself a favor and buy a car that is in good shape and from a reputable source. I just saw that www.speedforsale.com has about a handful of FD's for sale. They're good guys so I'd trust them to do your right.

never assume anything when it comes to an FD. you'll end up paying twice as much by the time it's fixed. it's *always* better to be safe than sorry with these things.

trust these guys, dont take anyones word for it unless its a reputable shop. Iam having the car iam buying inspected by 2 shops. Thats really why so many people on the board end up spending so much more money on the car after they buy it, cause there is a **** load of problems that they never knew about. This is your first fd...why even take the risk.

1. Id look for another FD. I'm not even sure you'd be able to get it registered with the single turbo on there. Heavily modified FD are a pain to get registered in CA. They see a BOV and freak out.
2. Have about $20K extra on hand if you buy this car. Rebuild, turbo, plus a ton of random **** that comes up with these cars.
Not trying to discourage your, just letting you know what you may be getting into. Id seriously check out that website and at least consider it.
