Broken throttle body stud

Another lesson learned: Double check to make sure the torque value you're reading is for the bolt you're torquing.

I broke one of the top studs in the throttle body. Mazda doesn't have a part number for just the stud. Any suggestions on where I could get a new stud pressed in? (Or is it a screw in stud? I haven't even checked...)

never experienced that before. . . ouch!!!! if its screw in you should just replace them all with bolts. . . maybe from ARP or something.

Should be a screw in stud. I'm sure you know this, but just take a pair of vice grips and grab onto the broke stud and unscrew it out, then get a bolt that's the same length/pitch and you're done!

It it broke off flush with the manifold then you would need to use a scre extractor on it. You may have to take off the manifold to do this. I wouldnt recomend torquing down the small bolts that are not crucial. Unless you have a very nice expensive torque wrench and you like doing stuff like that. If you know what you are doing you can tell how tight it is suppose to be.

Yeah, I've found that if I use a 1/4 drive ratchet vs. 3/8 drive ratchet on 10mm and 12mm bolts, that I can't really put enough torque to break them.

Has anyone ever broken the studs on the turbo that hold the DP/pre-cat? When I was working on my car I wanted to put in my DP and I had the wrench and a two foot long aluminum pipe to help me torque it, but then I got worried that I would break something and REALLY be fucked. So I saved the upgrade for another day which has yet to come. Any experiences?

Well, Pulled my engine out just to work on an exhaust leak I had coming from between the front pipe and the engine. At first, I thought it was the front pipe, but when I pulled the front pipe off, and the gasket fell on my face in ONE piece, I figured it wasn't THAT gasket. Before you begin, be sure that you spray the 4 bolts with WD-40/liquid wrench...one of those types. Then get to work! When you re-install them, put some Anti-Seize on them...so that if you ever have to take them off, it won't be as hard.

Yep, I broke the throttle body stud too, I just found a bolt the same length/size and cut the hex head off and filed the threads a bit and presto!
