Awesome, Tom.
I remember the first time I did mine I was like, "Oh ****...what have I got myself in to?" but after you see the logic of it....psshh. It is not that bad.

You are correct. Doing it and studying the workings as you go along builds your experience. Patience is the key. Having the proper tools is a must.

Now most of you may not believe this, but I did this job in the kitchen, using my basic kitchen tool drawer. It consists of hammer, needle nose, small screwdriver set, standard philips and a can of 3in1 oil

No one knows how amazing more than me. I honestly thought there was no way for the key to be extracted. Anyway, Tom I have good news! LOL this door handle was from a car I parted out. I've had plenty of crazy girlfriends but they all knew where my true heart was. Needless to say I feel bad for the previous owner .

Tom, can we get a replacement spring somewhere. I just got off the phone with Mr. Crowe for another 5th syncro and some coolant seals but he loves to find me things I we both never knew existed. Also, since I have the other matching door handle here I would prefer not to mix match their finishes. Strange question, have you ever had any luck matching the 93 interior coating with any type of paint? I have plenty of panels from that R1 that I parted out that need to be recoated...

I'm also a man of my word, I opted to see the impossible done and Tom delivered . Tom, LMK what the damage is and I'll get the payment to you. I highly recommend "Badddrx7" key repair services

It's free Lance. I enjoyed working on it and the challenge. Both of us contribute some valuable experience to this board so hopefully other will read this and know that they too can fix these things with some of the very simpliest of tools.

I'll put him back together, lube it up and mail it back to you. With the broken key

PS - if anyone has a scrap handle assembly WITH that little door spring and they want to give it up for a good cause. Send it to me and I'll put a new door on Lance's project here.

PM me if you do

Also I need a door cover. The little tags were missing that orient the cover. Maybe I can make one for you if someone out there does not have a trashed latch assembly. Best to have the hard original.

Well I made a door cover and it's ready to send back to Lance. The key slides into the slot like butter. Too bad I didn't have a spring or I'd made a swing door for it. This one is a keeper.
