Ive already put 300miles on the engine but the car just doesnt seam to feel right... it kind of feels weak and it idles rough...

Since you think i got ripped, do you think i should do something about it? I dont know what i really could do hes the expert in the situation and its my word vs his.

Well, what's done is done. I'm not saying the guy was intentionally trying to rip you off, but the choice of reusing your rotor housings (assuming that's what was done) was an extremely poor choice.

I'd go back and talk to him, find out exactly what the deal is with your rotor housings, explain your concerns with the car, and see what he'll do to fix them. When Ihor and I perform an engine job, the car doesn't leave until it's 100%, case closed.

If the rotor housings are/were in good condition and within specs, there is no reason you cannot reuse them. Some builders will only use new rotor housings, some will reuse "good" rotor housings. Its a preference. However, Mazda does give specs for reusing them so it is ok to do so.

If you REALLY suspect something is not quite right with the motor, get a compression test done. At that way you can rule out (or find out) if the motor is the problem or if you have issues outside of the motor.

Agreed, but lately I've been tearing down a lot of original engines, all of them with less miles than efranklin had----51k, 53k, 64k, etc. ALL of them were worn way past being reusable. I have no problem reusing within spec used rotor housings, but if I'm a betting man efranklin's most definitely were not reusable.

I agree. However I don't think anyone knows exactly what was used or were around to inspect if or any of the old components were reused. Therefore, I don't see any point in scaring the guy, especially without a compression test to show the health of the engine.

This is a pretty common fallacy---it won't hurt the motor a bit to give it a little (less than half a bar or so) of boost. When I build an engine with fresh bearings I definitely give it some time idling and some miles before boosting on it, but there is absolutely no reason not to boost the car at all for 1500 miles. Plus, with the stock seq setup, it's basically impossible to stay out of boost just driving easy around town

I must concur..My FD is my daily driver..When I had my rebuild done by Pettit Racing 2 months ago,I tried hard to stay out of boost for a while, but it was nearly impossible with my sequential twins..Just even tapping on the throttle lightly would bring me into boost in low gears..

I wouldn't take it back to the same guy, you need another shop to do the test so you know that it won't have been tampered with.

any updates?

i've been to maztech. IMO, jeff should stick to 1st and 2nd gens. His FD work isnt the best. He's selling a 3rd gen that he bought from a customer awhile back with a bad motor. Now its back together and has a nice oil leak and strange whine. test drove it and nothing but white smoke came from under the hood after 6 minutes of driving.

arent you over on TR.com? i'll hit you up with a PM over there and get you in touch with a guy that knows his rotaries for sure (not saying maztech doesnt).
